Have you heard of NO-Mow-Mai?
Now, if you are the owner of a weed-free, English lawn, nature will not benefit from you not mowing your lawn. But you will get to Jeopardy-June. It will be your back and your mower in jeopardy.... And your beloved lawn will look awful for several weeks.
IF you have a lawn with some wildflowers in, you will have some flowers for wildlife. And then it's Jeopardy-June for you too.
WHY NOT have a Make-up-your-mind-Mai?
Picture perfect English lawn? Keep on mowing low, feeding often and chucking weedkiller on it.
Wildlife friendly, flowery gras-area?
Set your mower to the highest setting. Mow every 2-3 weeks. Never fertilise, wild flowers mostly prefer poorer soils. Never use poisons. You will then effectively dead-head the wildflowers regularly, so they will keep on coming. Daisies, Dandelion, Self-heal, Fox-and-cubs, Speedwells and many others will add colour to your garden.
