There are those great days in a project when the things you have been imagining in drawings and words for years start to become reality. This week we are delighted to appoint Cubby Construction as main contractor for the Annan Harbour restoration project.

Over the next two years, this wonderful but derelict harbour and former town dump will be transformed into a vibrant community and visitor facility within a restored natural environment.

Total respect for all the hard work by the community client Annan Harbour Action Group - Charity Sc46732 and the wider team including Narro , Harley Haddow, HarrisonStevens, Thomson Gray. Cragg Management, Aegea. Graphics by Dalgety Visuals.

Wonderful discussion last night with Julian Stair and Rebearth in Leith at Talks at the Lane.

We all create with clay, with strong resonances between disciplines, but also clear points of difference. In the house of clay there is a thin but important wall between the room of the ceramicist and the room of the earth builder. Creating a pot is a linear process to create an object, transformed through fire into a new life, whereas creating an earth building borrows clay for a while to take other form, with the inevitability of return to ground.

Check out Julian's Quotidian film showing the living assemblage of ceramics experienced through all our senses.

This is a video that is playing in and features the work from the exhibition Quotidian by Julian Stair, held at Corvi-Mora Gallery from 13 November 2014 to 10 January…

Bricks are such an under- appreciated part of Scotland's built and industrial heritage. After decades of dereliction it's brilliant to be on site at the start of the transformation of the former Mayfield Tram Depot into Dundee Museum of Transport with funding from Historic Environment Scotland

Caring for cars, buses, buildings and bricks in Scotland's city of design. Spread the love.

The shots of rum may be in short supply, but there is no end of talented pirates and musicians on hand down at the harbour in Annan. But between the celebration of community, lots of hard work going on by local volunteers in meeting rooms and online to bring transformative change to their harbour.

No end of respect to everyone at Annan Harbour Action Group - Charity Sc46732

Where does Scotland find new residents for the empty houses of our Gods?

Does the decline of religion provide an opportunity to fix the housing crisis?

How does the housing of culture intersect with the culture of housing?

Two stimulating events last week fed our latest blog.

I'd say read it and weep, but hey it's Friday, we've got the old school dub on in the office and I wouldn't want to spoil your weekend. More on this later

When we began work at the historic Dreel Halls in Anstruther back in 2009, it was in two separate ownerships, barely useable, with a spire in danger of collapse.

So great to visit on Saturday to see the building united, restored and in thriving community use. Really enjoyed watching Into The Oceanic film, part of the Fife Seaweed Festival.

So much respect for these community activists level of commitment and care, and of course the support of Fife Historic Buildings Trust and Historic Environment Scotland

We had such a great time presenting our ongoing thinking about how a Rights of Nature approach can help rebalance the construction sector towards a future that's good for all species - including humans.

We are so far from a good place just now, we need to change mindsets. Part of the amazing Architecture Fringe and with the exceptional Rebearth, supported by The Scottish Ecological Design Association and Earth Building UK and Ireland

Check out the recording!

This is a presentation by Tom Morton of Arc and Becky Little of Rebearth as part of the Architecture Fringe 2025. It explores working with earth from a Right...

As Scotland looks to implement it’s new Circular Economy Bill in the construction sector, the need to stop creating mountains of waste soil is vital. We gathered leading practitioners from across Europe to discuss progress across the continent and reflect on the shared challenges and opportunities that confront us.

Honoured to be invited to participate in the Architecture Fringe Recipro-Cities core programme with Rebearth .

Following the exhibition opening last Friday, we will be developing our theme of 'to care and to carry' through a series of events over the coming year.

On Monday we are holding workshops and giving a talk at the Briggait in Glasgow, with our co-partners Bothand Group from Dublin and Resolve Collective from London. Looking forward to working with them and perhaps sharing our practice with some of you there.
