This week, the CSY team came together in Edinburgh at PizzaExpress for a well-deserved social day. With our staff based between our four regional offices, its always a great opportunity when we can get together for a team day.

We began the day with a pizza making class, mastering the art of stretching and tossing dough before creating our own perfect combinations. After lunch, we rounded off the day at Indigo Yard Edinburgh with a relaxed afternoon of drinks and catch-ups.
A fantastic way to reconnect as a team!

Dunbar Parish Church Halls have served the local community since their opening in 1908. Today, the building is a welcoming and thriving hub that provides a base for a range of activities and is recognised as a place to gather and to avail of the emotional and pastoral support of the volunteers who work hard to preserve the history and secure the future of this historic building.

Completed in 2026, Dunbar Parish Church Halls has benefitted from Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) Net Zero Fund and the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewables Energy Scheme (CARES) funding to implement a conservation-led retrofit, carefully repairing historic elements whilst improving the building fabric and adding renewable energy generation.

This building is now kept warm by Air Source Heat Pumps as well as being fitted with low-energy LED light fittings, whilst repairing and installing thermally efficient glazing to the original heritage windows. The care taken to restore the historic interiors and finishes is a reflection of the value the building has brought to the community for generations.

This project has effectively reduced operational carbon emissions of the building by over 75%, securing a sustainable future for this historic building and ensuring that the community will continue to benefit from its facilities.

A sunny site visit to Oldhamstocks Village Hall. ☀️
This project has been in the works for about six years, with a few pauses along the way. But it is great to see this project finally being realised on site - exciting progress for a fantastic community space!

We’re excited to share that our recent refurbishment of The Parliament Arms in Edinburgh is now complete, and the renewed pub has officially opened its doors to the public.

This historic pub, within a 17th century tenement building, is promimently placed near to the Scottish Parliament. The interiors have been completely refreshed, leaning into a warm, traditional aesthetic with timber panelling, papered walls, and leather upholstery. The redesigned bar forms a new focal point, complemented by three bespoke eight‑seater booths with saloon‑style doors, inspired by the building’s rustic charm.

An event space to the rear has also been fully fitted out - suited for performances and gatherings, especially during the Edinburgh Festival.

The CSY Architects team was delighted to work alongside Star Pubs and the new operators, Lomond Leisure Group, to bring this characterful space back to life.

Great news 🏇

We’re really pleased to have secured planning approval for improvements at Kelso Races - a project that has been all about striking the right balance between operational needs and protecting what makes this place special.
The proposals bring forward new jockey facilities and a flexible events base, supporting the day-to-day running of the racecourse while opening up future opportunities for wider use.
The design takes its cues from the existing grandstand, with a simple arched entrance creating a clear sense of arrival and connection to the site’s heritage. Set low into the landscape at parade ring level, the building is deliberately modest - improving accessibility and function without competing with its surroundings.
It’s a positive step forward and we’re looking forward to bringing this to life alongside the Kelso Races and the project team.

Another hospitality project wrapped up! This time, its Clarets, the new restaurant within St Andrews’ iconic R&A World Golf Museum. Our design has looked to enhance the unique qualities of this space and complement the panoramic views overlooking the Old Course.
This project marks the latest chapter in our ongoing collaboration with The Rocca Group, for whom we have proudly designed all hospitality venues to date - The Seafood Ristorante (St Andrews), The Broughton (Edinburgh), and Café Calton (Edinburgh).

Business Association Support.
CSY Architects were delighted to host a meeting of local businesses in our Lothians office in Dalkeith town centre recently, attended by local MP, Kirsty McNeill MP for Midlothian, following a walk-around of other town centre businesses. Having been based in the town centre since 2012 and with experience of participating in other similar projects, we are very keen to see this succeed, so it is great to get this endorsement from the MP.
