🌊 One Year On – A Seaside Garden Growing Beautifully 🌿
Twelve months ago we completed this unique coastal garden overlooking the stunning sands of Askam-in-Furness, with uninterrupted views across the Duddon Estuary towards the magnificent Lakeland Fells. Returning this week to see how the garden has matured has been an absolute pleasure.
What makes this garden so special is how it blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Inspired by the beach and shoreline beyond, we used decorative pebbles, flowing curves, ornamental grasses and architectural Mediterranean-style planting to create a landscape that feels like a natural extension of the coast itself.
The circular artificial lawn provides a striking focal point, while the bespoke wave-pattern fencing echoes the movement of the sea and adds a real sense of character and individuality. The natural sandstone paving creates elegant seating areas from which to enjoy some of the finest views in Cumbria.
After just one year, the planting is becoming beautifully established. The phormiums, grasses and coastal-tolerant plants have settled in well, softening the landscape and creating movement, texture and colour throughout the garden. Perhaps most importantly, this remains a genuinely low-maintenance outdoor space, allowing the owners to spend more time enjoying the view and less time maintaining the garden.
This project is a wonderful example of how thoughtful design can connect a garden to its surroundings, creating a space that feels completely at home in its environment.

🌿 One Year On – A Garden Coming Into Its Own 🌿
Twelve months ago, we completed the construction and planting of this beautiful front garden in Askam in Furness, and this afternoon we had the pleasure of returning to see how it has developed over the past year.
What a transformation nature can achieve in just twelve months!
The planting has matured beautifully, the ornamental grasses are now adding movement and texture throughout the borders, the hostas have established well, and the carefully selected mix of evergreen shrubs, perennials and architectural plants are all combining to create a stunning display of colour, form and interest. Every area of the garden now feels settled and balanced, exactly as intended when the design was first created.
Perhaps most impressive of all is how immaculate the garden looks. Not a w**d in sight and everything has clearly been cared for with great pride by the owners. Their dedication has allowed the garden to flourish, and the results speak for themselves.
This project was designed to be attractive throughout the seasons whilst remaining relatively low maintenance. The combination of decorative gravel, sweeping paved pathways, evergreen structure planting, ornamental grasses and perennial colour means there is always something interesting to look at without the intensive upkeep often associated with traditional gardens.
Looking back at projects like this reminds us why thoughtful garden design is so important. A newly planted garden can look attractive on completion, but it is often after twelve months, when the plants begin to establish and knit together, that the real magic starts to happen.
This is a garden we are incredibly proud of, and it demonstrates perfectly what can be achieved through good design, quality construction and carefully selected planting.

To soften the landscaping and create a vibrant contrast, we have installed a lush Aughton Green lawn, providing an attractive and hard-wearing area of turf that is ideal for family use. The rich green lawn works perfectly alongside the paving, creating a balance between practical outdoor living and natural garden beauty.
The borders have been constructed using pressure-treated timber sleeper raised planting beds, adding structure, depth and character to the garden. 🌿 Complete Garden Revival in Barrow-in-Furness 🌿
What a transformation this garden has undergone!
Completed today in Barrow-in-Furness, this project involved breathing new life into a garden that had gradually become heavily overgrown after more than 20 years of growth and maturity. While the original structure of the garden remained attractive, many of the planting areas had become overcrowded, making the space difficult to maintain and preventing newer plants from thriving.
Our first task was to completely clear the existing borders, removing the mature shrubs, overgrown planting, and unwanted vegetation throughout the garden. This created a blank canvas from which we could redesign the planting scheme and restore the garden's original beauty.
Rather than replacing the existing hard landscaping, the customer wished to retain the attractive brick pathways, raised brick planters, and natural stone paving which still formed the backbone of the garden. To refresh these areas, we carefully cleaned and repointed sections of the paving and pathways, helping to restore their appearance and extend their lifespan for many years to come.
The planting beds have now been replanted with a carefully selected collection of young flowering shrubs, evergreen plants, and seasonal interest varieties. These new plants will gradually establish and mature over the coming years, providing colour, texture, fragrance, and year-round interest without the overcrowded appearance of the previous planting scheme.
To complete the makeover, the borders and feature beds have been finished with decorative golden chippings, helping to suppress w**ds, retain moisture, reduce maintenance, and provide a clean, contemporary finish that beautifully complements the warm tones of the paving and brickwork.
The result is a garden that feels brighter, larger, easier to maintain, and ready to be enjoyed once again.

🌿 A Contemporary Garden Designed for Enjoyment & low Maintenance 🌿
This garden transformation in Barrow-in-Furness was designed to create an attractive, practical outdoor space that can be enjoyed throughout the year with minimal upkeep.
The centrepiece of the project is this beautiful Raj Blend natural sandstone paving, shown here in its dry state, displaying a lovely mix of warm creams, buffs, greys and subtle golden tones. The varied colouring and natural character of the stone create a timeless appearance that complements both modern and traditional homes.
To frame the patio and soften the hard landscaping, we constructed a series of raised planting beds using pressure-treated railway sleepers. These beds were carefully planted with a selection of dwarf evergreen shrubs and flowering plants, chosen to provide colour, texture and year-round interest without demanding constant attention.
The planting areas were then finished with a decorative layer of golden chippings, helping to suppress w**ds, retain moisture and create a clean, contemporary finish that contrasts beautifully with the dark fencing and natural timber.
The result is a garden that feels spacious, welcoming and stylish, whilst remaining easy to maintain — giving our customers more time to relax and enjoy their outdoor space.

🌿 Stunning Split-Level Family Garden in Barrow-in-Furness 🌿
Another beautiful garden transformation by RD Landscapes, creating a practical yet stylish outdoor space that the whole family can enjoy for years to come.
This garden was designed around the natural change in levels, with the different sections carefully retained using substantial pressure-treated timber sleepers, creating strong, attractive raised areas whilst adding character and structure to the overall design.
The centrepiece of the project is the elegant grey natural sandstone paving, laid throughout the garden to provide a durable and timeless finish. The soft grey tones complement both traditional and modern properties and create a bright, spacious feel.
To define the different levels, we constructed bespoke sleeper retaining walls and feature steps, allowing easy access between the patio and lawn area while creating attractive planting beds. These raised beds have been finished with carefully positioned buxus topiary balls, adding year-round structure and a touch of formal elegance to the garden.
The garden was completed with a freshly laid Aughton Green lawn, providing a lush, vibrant area for children to play and for family gatherings throughout the summer months. Around the perimeter, we supplied and installed brand-new fencing throughout, giving the garden a clean, secure and private finish.
The result is a fantastic family garden that combines practicality, durability and visual appeal, making the most of every inch of available space.
