Another Open Tab Closed. ✅

Around four years ago I started painting the base units in my kitchen.

Then life happened.

Customers came first, properties needed renovating, downtime was spent recuperating from the daily grind and, like most tradesmen, my own house ended up at the bottom of the list.

Cobblers boots and all that. 😁

This week, finally forced to slow down with a broken ankle I finally got round to finishing it.

The units were over 15 years old and looking tired, but instead of ripping out a perfectly good kitchen and spending thousands, I spent less than £50 refreshing what was already there.

Fresh paint.

Fresh grout.

Fresh silicone.

A few repairs.

That’s it.

There’s still a couple of jobs left to do, but the difference is night and day.

A reminder that transformations don’t always come from replacing everything.

Sometimes they come from finally making time to finish what was already there.

And yes… there’s probably a metaphor hidden in there somewhere. 😉🙌🏼

Cobbler’s boots and open tabs…

For weeks I’ve felt overwhelmed by all the open tabs running in the background.

A broken ankle wasn’t part of the plan, but maybe the pause was.

Whilst I can’t do everything I normally would, I can finally start closing some of those tabs.

The kitchen units. The paperwork. The little jobs I’ve been walking past for months.

Most people would probably use the time to switch off. I’m using it to reset.

One job. One tab. One step closer to a quieter mind.

Funny really… I thought I needed more time. What I actually needed was permission to use it differently.

Future Paul will thank me for it. 👌🏼

For a long time I thought the answer was somewhere out there.

The next challenge.
The next goal.
The next horizon.
The next achievement.

And don’t get me wrong, those journeys have taught me more than I could ever put into words.

But recently I’ve realised something.

The things that have overwhelmed me, exhausted me and tested me most haven’t happened on a mountain, a coastal path or at the end of a challenge.

They’ve happened in everyday life.

The unanswered emails.
The unfinished jobs.
The pressure.
The expectations.
The feeling of needing to prove myself.

What I’ve been learning is that the lessons aren’t just found in the extraordinary moments.

They’re found in the mundane ones too.

Maybe the point was never to become someone else.

Maybe the point was to travel all those miles, chase all those horizons, only to end up back at my own front door and finally recognise the person standing there.

Still walking.
Still learning.
Still growing.

One step at a time.

Renovation update…

Adding insulation above master bedroom as there’s currently around 50mm up in the loft space and the property is like a sauna upstairs…

Just finishing the plastering on the stairwell so the bro can start decorating, keeping things moving as best I can in the time I’ve got 🙏🏼
