Over 150 years old and still the most interesting thing in the room.
This is a genuine antique English oak joint stool, dating back to the 1800s and possibly earlier. Solid oak, hand carved panel along the apron, turned legs, and a rich dark patina that no amount of modern staining could replicate.
It has a few age cracks in one leg and the odd knock and dent, all completely in keeping with its age and none of it affecting how it sits or how solid it feels. Swipe through to see the carving detail up close.

These aren't just stools. They're chairs, with their backs sawn off!

Sometime in the 1800s, a pair of child's Windsor chairs had their backs removed and were put back to work as stools. The original turned beech legs are still there. So are the mortise holes in the seat tops where the back spindles used to sit — the last trace of their former life.

It's such a perfectly practical, waste nothing piece of 19th-century thinking. And after 200 years, the elm seats have the most incredible deep, warm patina.

Listing in progress! This solid, versatile bookcase has been thoughtfully reimagined in a soft, matt apple green. It's the perfect size for a hallway console, a dedicated reading nook or stylish nursery storage.

The standout detail is hidden, pull out the drawers to reveal a hand stencilled scroll design in shimmering copper gilding wax along the sides. It's a subtle touch of luxury that makes opening the drawers are little more special.

​Why the change? I wanted a name that felt more personal and truly captured the "refinishing" process—whether I’m working with bold colours or restoring natural wood grains.
​Thank you for all the support you’ve shown "Creatively Modern" over the years. I’m so excited to step into this next chapter as Refinished by Fiona.
