Planning application submitted to convert this vacant building into a single dwelling. The existing building has a deep history in the local area, being a former Nail making workshop.

In recent years, this building has been left vacant and has been left in a state of disrepair. Our proposals hope to bring new life to the building while still maintaining the original historical character.

We look forward to hearing from the council on this one!

From detail design to reality.

Set within a double-height space, the stair isn’t just about compliance; it’s about drama and movement. The landing is designed to overlook the entrance hall, creating visual connection between levels, while a statement pendant light anchors the space and draws the eye vertically.

A reminder that good architecture lives in the detail, and that when design intent survives the journey to site, the results really sing.

We all love a before and after transformation. We are delighted to have received the final completion certificate for this project last week.

Our clients have really made this house their own with their styling additions, using the architectural bones we gave them in our design. The design brief was simple, they wanted the "wow factor" they were keen to go against the grain of a traditional extension, and this is the result!

We added a rear extension and a double storey side extension with a porch to the front. The practical elements of the brief were met with a downstairs wet room, level thresholds everywhere, and wider doors downstairs to allow them to futureproof and to truly create their forever home.

We really loved popping in for a cuppa this afternoon and talking through their styling choices and how much they now love their new space.

The new mezzanine floor in the eaves of the building will house the bedroom spaces. Leaving voids in the floor plate enables us to create some drama in double height spaces in our lounge areas.

Sometimes, you don't need to extend! Just taking down a wall can dramatically change a space.

For this project, we proposed to take down a wall separating a small cramped kitchen and the dining room. This created the feeling of a spacious modern kitchen diner with a feature standing bar to avoid expensive plumbing works of moving a radiator.

At Ideal Architecture, we enjoy working on projects of all shapes and sizes, but we particularly embrace the challenges of working within smaller budgets and spaces to stretch our creativity.
