Just reminder that nesting season is beginning about now, so any hedges that need trimming should to be done ASAP. It is illegal to disturb a birds nest and once foliage has filled out it makes detecting them much harder.

It's also a good idea to cut back before the growing season starts, so that foliage has chance to fill out.

And this week's job. Decking is great but it needs regular maintenance. Give it lots of TLC and it'll last for years (as long as its been correctly installed).

Here's a few tips:
1) Keep a record of what the spec is and where it came from (use a timber merchant if you can, rather than a DIY store) so you can get replacement boards as you need them.
2) Pre drill holes for the screws and widen the top so the screw heads don't get buried in the ridges (you may need to remove and then resit planks for access in the future but if you have to drill out the screws then you may need to buy new boards)
3) Use good quality, cross head decking screws that are going to last
4) Strip the decking back once a year and apply decking oil. Also make sure you wash it down a couple of times between that, to remove dirt, leaves, bird poo etc. Stuff like that sitting on the decking over winter will cause damage.
5) Don't have mats and plant pots sitting directly on decking. Plant pots should be lifted off with 'feet' or blocks of wood, allowing the water to drain away, otherwise the decking boards will quickly rot.

Just an update on the current job, which is building a frame around a vegetable patch to keep those pesky pigeons at bay!

And we're back from the break and on the road.

Actually that's only half true, we're 'technically' back but in reality just hiding under cover out of the blistering heat most of the time.

But we're open for quotes again so get in touch if you need us.

It's been a fantastic couple of months since Muddy Boots started up, a huge thank you to all the amazing customers that have made it an absolute joy so far. From fencing, to patios, to repointing, to decking, to aggregates, to pruning, weeding, planting and a whole load of digging πŸ™‚

We're taking a few weeks off now and will be back in mid July, we look forward to seeing everyone then.

In the meantime, just a quick note about hedges and trees, as this has been coming up alot recently. Nesting season runs from February to August so any work to trim or remove hedges or trees must only happen if there are no active nests - they are protected by law and it's an offence to disturb them during the season. Work can still happen but make sure nests are checked for beforehand and be prepared for work to be halted half way through if a previously undetected nest is found. If its not urgent then it may be worth waiting until September.

See you all in a few weeks πŸ‘πŸ₯Ύ

Into our second month now and just a quick thank-you to you all for liking and sharing our page, we really appreciate your support. And a big thanks also to those of you that have left such great reviews ❀

The weather has not been kind and has certainly slowed things down, but maybe the newest member of our team could help - 'Charles' the wet and dry vac has joined us and seems to be settling in well πŸ™‚

Another fencing project this week, and a tricky one at that! The customer needed a fence for security and privacy to screen off the front of the house from an open park area. The problem was the large number of trees that were in the way that couldn't be removed. No direct line and ground that was riddled with builders rubble and tree roots.

But we got there and pretty happy with the end result 😊
Before and after shots:

Fencing job completed this week. Customers very happy and even kept me going with a bag of chocolates 😁

A job that began in the sunshine and finished a week later in the wind and rain but the results look great. All the old turf removed from the front of the house and replaced with blue slate, and the beds in the back garden replaced with gravel beds.

We've been busy this week getting a clients turf and borders dug out and replaced with decorative aggregate.

It takes a while to dig out the 850kg bulk bags, so when you finally see the bottom it feels like striking treasure.

Pity about the other three left to do 😁
