I love mini projects - limited time - limited budgets (relative to the job's time) - clients have a problem and a quick solution is needed - so you gotta think and act quickly
Today's project - rebuild a raised planter (and do a clean up in the back garden)
The last raised planter, built from decking, had been dug into the soil and had rotted from ground up - as well as no lateral suppport so the sides had bowed and failed
I basically rebuilt the planter - built with pressure treated external wood - lateral movment is now resisted with post driven into the ground and fixed to the sides, as well as a couple of struts to prevent bowing in certain places
It no longer sits on soil but instead a small foundation of stones to help resist rot from the ground up
The insides of the planters have a membrane and stones against them to again prevent rot
Then to finish it off - a deep layer of mulch will deter weeds and over time help to condition the soil
On the aesthetics - I decided to bend the wood, so instead of right angles the clients now have curves - I love curves - the curves were my idea
Garden tidied - mini project done
