6-7 hours hedge and shrub cutting at customers in Littleover followed by some care duties at my Mums. Arriving home at sunset I needed to tackle my front garden which was looking rather bleak! OK it's a window box over the pavement. outside my bedroom window !
Ladder out, compost refreshed, then trailing Indian Mint and a range of tuberous Begonias I had over wintered. The beauty of the Begonias is they are self cleaning so I just sweep the pavement! The only time it gets swept!
Went to take a picture this morning and OOOPS! I had left my garden trowel on the window ledge 🤣

We all think of the Flamingo Willows on little stalks in front gardens or in pots at the front door but left to grow they become quite sizable characters like this one in the picture.
This form is actually likely to be Hakuro Nishiki which has been around a long time and is more cream in colour.
I cut a good 3 feet or so off this tree in early spring and it now rewards us with a great show in my Littleover customers garden.

Right so I MADE a tree fern in recent days! 🤔🤪
I picked up a roll of coir basket liner from Swarkestone Nursery and found some plastic mesh in my shed. I attached the coir to the mesh which wasn't easy but it enabled me to form a "trunk".
I then packed the trunk with compost and planted a Shuttlecock Fern in the top as the fronds of the fern are light in colour much like a tree fern which is a Dicksonia. I then put sphagnum moss round the top to blend things in.
Its created a feature in the garden giving height and cost me around £10 in materials as I had the fern kicking around at home.
Tree ferns are wonderful but not in everyone's budget so I have shown you can create something a bit similar on any budget!

So I start the morning with a bit of tropical Nepenthes pitcher plant propagation as you do! This plant has grown 4 feet through my Yucca plant from a small 9cm pot but after putting out new basal shoots it was time to cut it back.
Cut into sections, leaves reduced to reduce transpiration then dipped in hormone rooting gel. The media they were put into was a bit of an odd one! It was sphagnum moss which has worked before.
Pots of cuttings then watered with rain water and put in ASDA propagation bags ! Oh OK they are ASDA food bags 🤣.
Pots then placed in a light spot in the house out of strong sunlight.
Now I cross my fingers.
More adventures in Horticulture!

One man went to mow, went to mow a meadow! That was certainly the case today at one of my Littleover customers gardens where the lawn had gone more than a bit feral! Outbreaks of brambles and bindweed in the mix and wet grass from yesterday's day of rain but hey I like a challenge! It keeps things fresh!
Out came the Milwaukee Tool UK kit made up of my Quik Lok strimmer and long reach hedge cutter combo and my 46cm mower which is all battery kit. No fumes, no troubles with the pull cord, just instant power!
Knocked the grass and brambles down with the hedge cutter, then the strimmer followed by multiple passes with the mower on a high cut because of hidden stones.
In time things can be tidied further as the lawn dries and starts it's new maintained life but for now my customer has their garden - well half of it back with further visits to come.
