We held an awareness event last night to talk about the myths & facts around Bluetongue 🪰
Key facts
🐄🐑🐐
• BTV-3 is a notifiable disease spread by infected biting midges not by animal-to-animal contact
•It affects cattle, sheep, goats and other ruminants - not humans
•All of England and Wales are currently Restricted Zones
•Over 500 cases confirmed across GB so far this 2026/27 season.
•Hot weather speeds up virus development in midges, increasing transmission risk
As always the best cure is prevention, so vaccination is the safest way to eliminate the risk 💉
A huge thank you to James Dixon from Peakfield Farm Vets, Will Sanders from FCN and Alastair Sneddon & Mark Elliot from BagshawsLLP for coming down and shedding some light with us on the situation 🍀
