We’ve recently completed a small but impactful intervention alongside GCR Construction transforming a home through a new conservatory and the careful removal of part of an internal wall to open up the kitchen and living space.

are pleased to share that Listed Building Consent has been secured for our project on Hounds Gate with , supporting the sensitive upgrade of an existing HMO within a historic setting.

This project carefully balances the preservation of the building’s architectural character with the need to enhance functionality and living standards for occupants. The approved works focus on sympathetic alterations that respect the heritage significance of the property while ensuring it remains fit for modern residential use.

Key considerations throughout the process included:

Mellor Reid Architects are pleased to be supporting the team on the Leyland scheme for ALMCOR, helping progress the site through the pre-planning stage as it is transformed into a new 2-acre industrial open-storage yard.

Projects like this demonstrate how existing sites can be efficiently repurposed to support the growing demand for industrial open storage across the UK.

Planning approval secured ✅

After a long and challenging process, we’re delighted to share that the Almshouses project for The Davenport Homes has now received planning approval.

This scheme has required patience, collaboration and a lot of detailed work behind the scenes. Working closely with various consultants, the focus has always been on delivering high-quality, thoughtful homes that reflect the values and legacy of almshouse living while meeting modern standards.

We’re incredibly proud to have reached this milestone and grateful to everyone who helped push it over the line.

Now, on to the next stage — turning approved plans into homes that will make a real difference!

Before → After: Recalibrating a Listed Staircase

Intervening in a Grade II listed building is less about “making a statement” and more about listening closely to what the fabric already knows.
Before:
A heavy, light-absorbing staircase with compromised sightlines and a geometry that worked harder against the building than with it.

After:
By refining the balustrade profile, restoring proportional clarity to the treads and risers, and adopting finishes with higher reflectance values (all within conservation parameters), the stair now behaves as an intentional daylight collector rather than a passive obstruction.

A small adjustment in detailing; a substantial shift in spatial quality.

We work closely with GCR Construction on several projects and one of our residential rear extension and garage conversion is well underway.

This project transforms an existing home by opening up the ground floor, creating a light-filled open plan living and kitchen space that seamlessly connects to the garden.

The garage conversion adds valuable utility space, blending practicality with contemporary design, all tailored to meet our client’s lifestyle needs.
