I’ve not posted for a while.. it’s that time of year when things are exceptionally busy and weeds are growing faster than I can pull them up, but I thought I would share an update on this garden I’ve been working on over time.

The garden was incredibly overgrown and neglected when I first visited, but obviously, once loved.

I think it’s coming along quite nicely now and will soon be back to its former glory.

I’m just removing a Buxus hedge (box hedge)that succumbed to the dreaded box moth caterpillar last year and noticed that there are still lots of young, active caterpillars.

If you have Buxus plants in your garden, take whatever precautions you see fit.
Last years infestation seemed particularly brutal.

Bulb planting time!

One of the tasks where you need the vision and knowledge of how the flowers will look in the spring as opposed to planting pot grown plants, where you get that instant effect.

These are a mixed variety of daffodils, that will provide a welcome burst of colour in the spring

Another garden renovation that we have been working on this summer… quite a severe cut back was needed to kick start the rejuvenation of the shrubs.
The grass was so long, that when cut, it just left straw like tufts.
A few weeks later and after a fair amount of rain, it is finally starting to turn green again.

This garden has great bones and was clearly built with love.
We hope we can do it justice as we to try and restore it to its former glory.

I’m often asked how long will a garden take to establish after initial planting, to which I generally reply ‘around three years before I would expect it to start to knit together’ …. these photographs were taken two and a half years apart.

Of course it does depend upon the plants planted and the growing conditions that they enjoy
