From a trial in one area to installations across most of Jesus College, Cambridge

The College began using Multi-Shower in May 2023 and says both its maintenance team and users have been happy with the results.

Their Estates Team also highlighted the colour-coded inserts for making routine checks easier, more efficient and less disruptive.

Scale is more than a performance issue.

Most people notice limescale because it affects water flow and spray performance.

Less obvious is that mineral deposits can increase the available surface area and create protected niches where biofilm can become established.

Over time, this can make deposits more difficult to remove than mineral scale alone.

Cold water doesn't always stay cold.

Most people associate water hygiene with hot water.

In reality, prolonged hot weather can increase the temperature of cold water systems, particularly where water remains unused for long periods.

Managing cold water temperatures is just as important as managing hot water temperatures.

It doesn't replace routine inspection, cleaning or maintenance where these are required.

It sounds surprising, but periods of low use can allow water to stagnate, which is why recommissioning is an important part of preparing buildings before they return to full occupancy.

Students might not notice a refurbished plant room or a new pipework installation.

But they do notice a shower that works well.

Bathrooms are one of the first places students experience when they move into accommodation, which is why so many estates teams spend the summer making sure everything is clean, maintained and ready for the new academic year.
