Garage Door Refurbishment Project

Client's garage door was in good condition except for some minor wet rot along the base rail where a gap had formed between the door panels and the rail.

After a washdown, the rotten wood was excavated and stabilised with Ronseal Wood Hardener. Voids were filled with Toupret Wood Filler.

After thorough sanding, a coat of Zinnser 123 Primer applied. A bead of OB1 Sealant applied along the top of the rail to prevent water pooling along the panel / bottom rail margin.

Sealant primed and then 2 topcoats of Zinnser All Coat (waterbased) applied. Colour chosen by client.

Builder fitted a new French Window. Project was to redecorate the kitchen and tidy the boundary between the wall and the window frame.

Larger gaps prefilled with Soudal Expanding Foam and then levelled with Toupret Filler. The residual gap was sealed with CT1 Sealant.

The sealant was over painted with Tikkurila Optiva 5 to achieve a uniform visual finish between the wall and the window.

Clear silicone sealant had been used to seal the gap between the skirting and tile floor. The silicone created an unsightly colour contrast made worse by its capacity to attract and hold dirt.

Silicone removed and the gap resealed with OB1 Painters Pal. Tikkurila Helmi Topcoat applied to both the skirting and sealant to create visual uniformity.

Unsightly finishes around radiator.

Bead of clear silicone sealant has failed and attracted dirt. Filler on wall had not been sanded flat before being painted. Caulk on top of skirting has failed. Copper pipe to radiator was tarnished.

Remedial works have enhanced the look. New sealant (OB1 Painters Pal) has been painted the same colour as the skirting. Filler has been replaced and sanded. Copper pipe cleaned and 2 coats of clear lacquer applied.

Client had employed a carpenter to transform the understairs cupboard into a more accessible storage format.

Requirement was to paint the front faces of the cupboard in a matt finish.

Nail gun holes were filled with Toupret Woodfiller and and the MDF treated with particular attention to ensuring that the green colour of the MDF did not impact on the integrity of the blue chosen for the finish coat.

1 coat Zinnser Peelstop to seal the MDF. 2 coats Tikkurila Helmi Primer to provide strong foundation for the top coats and block the green colour. 2 topcoats of Helmi 10 "Denim".

3 major requirements: (1). Change the colour of the feature wall from Purple to Green. (2.) Remedy a number of extensive cracks across the ceiling and around the boundaries of the room where the ceiling and walls met. (3.) Repair Cracks in the walls.

3 Particular Requirements : (1.) Paint Internal Wall without causing the existing lining paper to lift. (2). Seal the gap between the overhead cupboard where the previous seal had broken as the timber had shrunk back. (3). Remedy long crack in the ceiling and small cracks on the walls. (4). Ensure that the sample colours painted on the walls by the client as "test samples" did not come through the topcoats.

Newly constructed cupboard.

Perimeter edges sealed with OB1 Sealant and Zinnser 123 Primer

Large MDF Panels sealed with Rustins MDF Primer Sealer. Interior panels varnished with Rustins Clear Satin Varnish.

Exterior panels and pine woodwork treated with 1 coat of Zinnser BIN, 1 Coat of Crown Full Trade Undercoat and 2 topcoats of Crown Satin White.

The process of applying some TLC to a doorway opening. Previous painters had simply overpainted. It took quite a bit of time to flatten the substrate, fill in the paint chips and fill / shape the voids left by the removed hinges and door catch plate.

Looking a bit more loved and respected.

2 coats of Zinnser 123 Bullseye Primer, Toupret Wood Filler and 2 topcoats of Zinnser AllCoat Satin.

Recent project to repaint some doors and a cupboard.

Bakelite Door handles removed and soaked for 60 minutes in hot soapy water. Softened paint scraped away with a plastic scraper. Second soak and scrape to remove all paint. Then a few coats of Bakelite Polish applied.

Hopefully the customer will change their mind about replacing these period pieces of door furniture.

Quick job to refresh the sealant along a bath edge. Insufficient screws had been used by the builders and there was movement in the panel. The sealant bead was small given the panel movement and the size of the gap between the tiles and the panel.

Old sealant removed and additional screws placed in the panel. An 8mm bead of sealant created. I was concerned that if I removed the screws in order to achieve a perfectly smooth finish this might have affected the bond. With hindsight .... I would try a different approach in future. Client very happy with the result.
