MOVING HOME?
If you're thinking about moving home, a little advice from Elite Gas Heating Systems:-
Gas safety should be priority when moving to another home to make sure you don't put your family, new neighbours' property or even your new neighbours at risk.
Moving home is an extremely stressful time, with many things to consider, but in the preparations to move, above decorating and positioning of furniture etc., and the general excitement of having your dream home, don't forget the safety aspects - your well-being.
According to statistics and figures from the Gas Safe Register, about 1 in 5 of homes in the UK have unsafe gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, fires and explosions.
Do your homework on the gas appliances in your new home and have them checked by a Gas Safe engineer before you take up residence. This information is also required for any surveys on the property.
Ask the present owners for the property's Gas Safety Record, or Gas Safety Certificate. This will provide you with proof of whether or not all the gas appliances have been checked yearly, which is a standard requirement.
If the vendors don't have this, then all the gas appliances must be checked and approved by a Gas Safe engineer.
Elite Gas Heating Systems works only with Gas Safe engineers, telephone or message 07768693300 and can assist with Gas Safety Certificates and services.
Recently, Gas Safe Register statistics revealed at least 15% of those renovating their properties could have an impact on gas safety, e.g., building a conservatory or extension and covering the flue is a common problem. Take professional advice to ensure you are gas safe and in no danger.
Never attempt to move or re-position any gas appliance yourself, choose how competent you feel you may be. Always get the services of a Gas Safe engineer - don't take any risks, as this could prove extremely dangerous. Elite Gas Heating SYSTEMS are available for such re-positions etc., fitting new boilers, cookers and servicing being our speciality. Telephone or message 07768693300 for a free, no obligation quote.
Before attempting renovations by drilling, hammering etc., always check the walls for what is behind it, with a pipe, cable and stud detector.
Never block or cover air vents or flues. If your flue becomes blocked, then gases will leak into your home, leaving you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Be aware of the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, i.e., headaches, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness. collapse or loss of consciousness
Know the main signs of fault with gas appliances, i.e., yellow flame, increased condensation, pilot light flickering, black marks or stains on the boiler
If you do suspect that an appliance is unsafe, you must get help immediately. Switch off your gas appliances and telephone the Gas Emergency Helpline on 088 111 999
Safety is paramount when dealing with gas and by just doing the above safety checks and seeking expert help and advice, your peace of mind will be assured.
BEST WISHES IN YOUR NEW HOME
