🥋 Burhouse Bursary Update: Elizabeth’s Taekwondo Journey
We’re incredibly proud to share the latest update from Burhouse Bursary recipient Elizabeth, who has recently returned from competing at the European Taekwondo Grand Prix in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Competing alongside over 1,000 athletes from across Europe, Elizabeth stepped onto one of the sport’s biggest stages in her first year as a Junior competitor, having moved up from the Cadet category.
In the highly competitive Junior -49kg division, Elizabeth delivered an outstanding performance.
âś… Round of 32
Elizabeth secured a superb victory over her Greek opponent, winning both rounds:
• Round 1: 6-3
• Round 2: 11-8
âś… Round of 16
She then faced the number two ranked athlete from Italy in what proved to be a tactical and closely contested match.
Despite narrowly missing out, Elizabeth pushed one of the tournament favourites all the way, losing the second round by just a single point in the closing seconds. Her opponent would go on to win a medal, highlighting just how competitive Elizabeth’s performance was.
Moving into a new age group, weight division and ranking category is never easy, but Elizabeth showed tremendous determination, resilience and skill throughout the competition.
Everyone at Burhouse Construction is incredibly proud of what she has achieved and we’re excited to follow her progress as she continues her journey in the sport.
Congratulations, Elizabeth! 👏🥋
