Old cob wall ✅ Modern extension ✅ One finish that works with both.
Cob walls need to breathe.
So when we see them finished with the wrong materials, it’s no surprise damp issues follow.
In this job we uncoverd a really healthy cob wall, with original stonework running through the space, after removing the old none breathable covering of old render and incorrect Paint, the goal was simple:
keep it breathable, keep it compatible, and make it look Clean.
We applied our 3 coat lime plaster over the cob — protecting the wall while still letting it do what it’s meant to do… breathe.
We also repointed the exposed stonework, using a lime putty to help keep everything working as it should (and looking sharp).
To keep the modern extension feeling continuous, we also skimmed the ceiling in lime.
Modern ceiling = Modern Techneques… but the lime finish the ceiling to the wall beautifully and keeps the continutiy in this Cottage
The result: calm, clean lines alongside the refreshed stonework — a proper blend of old + new.
