What a busy (and satisfying) day! 🌿

One of our regular customers wanted to replace an old privet hedge that just wasn’t providing enough privacy or noise reduction from the road. We recommended Prunus laurocerasus (common laurel) – a dense, evergreen hedge that’s perfect for screening and soundproofing.

We removed the old hedge and roots, dug a fresh trench, and planted the new laurel using a mix of existing topsoil and organic compost to give it the best start.

The result? A much neater finish, improved privacy and noise reduction – and they’ve even gained an extra metre of space around the front garden! 👌

🪴 Overview

Known as the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, Alstroemeria is a stunning, long-lasting perennial prized for its vibrant, trumpet-shaped blooms and lush green foliage. It’s a favorite among gardeners and florists alike for both garden displays and cut flower arrangements.

🌞 Growing Conditions
• Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade helps prolong blooming.
• Soil: Well-draining, fertile soil with organic matter.
• Water: Keep soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
• Temperature: Thrives in mild climates; protect from heavy frost.

🌼 Blooming Season
• Flowers: Summer through early autumn (depending on variety).
• Colors: A dazzling mix of pink, orange, red, yellow, white, and purple — often with speckled throats and striped petals.

✂️ Care Tips
• Deadhead spent blooms to encourage new growth.
• Mulch annually to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
• Divide clumps every 2–3 years to prevent overcrowding.
• Support taller varieties with stakes to prevent bending.

💐 Fun Fact

Alstroemeria symbolizes friendship, devotion, and prosperity — making it a popular choice for bouquets and celebrations.

🌿 Why We Love It
• Long-lasting cut flowers (up to 2 weeks in a vase!).
• Low-maintenance and hardy once established.
• Adds bright, tropical flair to garden borders or containers.

🏷️ Plant of the Week Tip

Pair Alstroemeria with salvias, lavenders, or ornamental grasses for a vibrant, textural summer display.

🌸 Plant of the Week: Hibiscus moscheutos (rosemallow) 🌸

This week we’re celebrating the stunning rosemallow, a showstopper in any late-summer garden! With its giant, velvety blooms—often 15–25 cm across—this hardy hibiscus brings a burst of tropical colour to temperate climates.

💖 Why we love it:
• Blooms from mid-summer through autumn, when many other flowers are fading.
• Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
• Despite its exotic look, it’s cold-hardy and easy to grow in full sun and moist soil.

🌿 Care tip: Cut back stems after frost; the plant will return each spring stronger and more beautiful than before.

📸 Just look at those radiant petals—proof that you don’t need to live in the tropics to enjoy a touch of paradise!

🐟 Pond Restoration 🌿

This summer we’ve been working alongside our pond specialist to bring a leaking clay pond back to life! 💧

The base had been churned up by previous works, causing it to lose water. To fix it, we added 12 bags of clay loam + 50 bags of bentonite 🪣, mixing it into the existing base to create a natural clay seal 🧱✨.

Now the pond can hold water again, and over autumn 🍂 and winter ❄️ it will slowly refill. Next year we’ll reinstate the waterfall 💦 and refresh the surrounding borders 🌸—restoring this beautiful feature to its former glory.
