Struggling with low pressure showers?
Poor hot water pressure?
Here’s some Pro’s and Con’s to the modern unvented cylinder. Feel free to ask any questions 🙂 👨🔧
Pros of Unvented Cylinder (Over Gravity)
High Pressure: Provides powerful, mains-pressure water to all taps and showers, removing the need for noisy shower pumps that don’t seem to stand the test of time. Usually resulting in hundreds of pounds lost every few years. This means you can opt for just a standard bar shower valve or equivalent without the need for a pump or digital pumped unit. (Unfortunately a lot of the digital pumped showers can’t just be a turn of a switch it normally requires a new digital high pressure unit without pump)
Space Saving: Eliminates the need for a cold water header tank in the loft, freeing up space and removing the risk of freezing pipes and unfortunate emergency call out costs. 💰 ✅
Improved Hygiene & Reliability: No stored water in the loft prevents contamination from debris or animals. Also no more ball valves or stored water in the loft which we have been out to multiple times for split header tanks ✅
Faster Heating: Unvented cylinders often have better heat insulation and heat up faster. Less money being spent on gas or electric heating your hot water 💰 ✅
Balanced Supplies: Hot and cold water pressure is balanced, making blending easier.
Cons of Unvented Cylinder (Over Gravity)
Higher Costs: The initial installation and unit cost are significantly higher than traditional gravity systems.
Safety Maintenance: Must be installed by qualified engineers and requires annual maintenance of safety devices like expansion vessels and pressure relief valves. G3 qualification.
