Chestnut | Client Reflections

“They gave us total confidence throughout that not only do they have the vision and ability to deliver a beautiful design, but also a beautiful family home to live in.”

This project was all about reworking how the home functioned day to day. By opening up the existing layout and introducing large sliding doors onto the garden, the spaces now feel lighter, calmer and far more connected to family life.

A contemporary garden office and bar was added alongside the refurbishment, linked back to the house with a larch-clad walkway that helps tie the whole project together architecturally.

Inside, the material palette was intentionally simple and warm, combining microcement flooring, oak, marble and matt black and brass detailing, with a double-sided fireplace creating a natural divide between the dining and lounge spaces.

Projects like this are always shaped by trust and collaboration, so we’re incredibly grateful to our clients for allowing us to be part of the journey

Slate House | Founder Home Revisit

A home Lucy and Darren designed for their own family, and one that still quietly shapes how we think about design today.

Built on a site that was once home to four storage garages, the project became an opportunity to create something completely tailored to the way their family wanted to live. Socialising, entertaining and a strong connection between inside and outside spaces were central to the design from the very beginning.

Because of the constraints of the site, two sunken courtyard gardens were introduced to bring natural light deep into the lower ground floor spaces, transforming what could have felt enclosed into spaces that feel bright, calm and full of life. Each bedroom was designed with direct access to outdoor space, creating room for climbing walls, hidden gardens and outdoor cinema nights as family life evolved over the years.

Inside, much of the family’s existing furniture and artwork was incorporated throughout the home, helping the spaces feel personal, layered and lived in from day one.

9 years later, it still works beautifully. Not just visually, but in the way the spaces continue to support everyday life, family routines and the moments in between.

A reminder that the best homes aren’t designed just for completion photos. They’re designed to be lived in.

Church Lane House | Listed Building Transformation

Set within the New Forest National Park, this project involved the careful transformation and extension of a listed home, balancing contemporary additions with the character and history of the original building.

From planning and building regulations through to project management on site, we worked closely with the client to guide the project from early concept through to delivery, ensuring every new intervention felt considered, sensitive and buildable.

One of those projects where the smallest details mattered most.

After lots of behind-the-scenes work, our new website is finally live.

We wanted it to feel more like us.

Not just polished finished images, but a better reflection of how we work with clients from first ideas through to life on site and the final details that bring a home together.
There’s now a clearer look at our process, our approach, and the architecture, interiors and project management work we do across the New Forest, Christchurch and surrounding areas.

A huge thank you to all of our clients, collaborators and the people behind the scenes who continue to trust and support Studio Maiva.

And thank you to for helping bring the new site to life.

Excited for what’s ahead.

Bridge Street | On Site

A softer, more welcoming dental environment is taking shape on site.

Right now, it’s steelwork, services and structural decisions. Soon, it’ll become a calm, refined space designed to completely reshape the patient experience.

For this project, the focus has been creating an environment that feels welcoming, restorative and quietly luxurious from the moment you walk through the door.

From curved forms and warm neutrals to soft lighting and carefully layered materials, every decision is intended to reduce clinical coldness and create a more human experience.

We’ll share more as the project progresses. For now, here’s a glimpse into the transformation underway.

Dalmeny Road | Nearing Completion

This one has been a really exciting project to watch come together.

Set on the Southbourne clifftop with incredible sea views, we have been involved from the very beginning, leading everything from the concepts, and the original planning application for a house and 5 flats.

With the help of another consultancy, the client was able to secure 4 town houses within the approved volume of our original scheme and we were then able to take the project forward through technical coordination, interiors, and ongoing project management.

We worked on building regulations, full specification, tender, contract coordination and administration, along with full project management.

Now that the scaffolding is starting to come down, we’re finally getting to see the architecture, materials and coastal setting all properly working together and it’s been so rewarding seeing the original vision beginning to fully take shape on site.

A big shout out as well to Construction who have been fantastic to work alongside throughout the build. It’s always a huge part of a project’s success when everyone involved genuinely cares about getting the details right.

Really looking forward to sharing the finished result soon!

Bitterne Way | On Site

One of those projects where the structure starts doing all the talking before the finishes even arrive.

The vaulted entrance space is quickly becoming one of our favourite moments in the house. What started as framing lines and sketches is now filled with light exactly as intended.

This full remodel has been taken from initial planning application through to building regulations and a full interior design package, with the rear extension, new roof form and dormers now really beginning to take shape on site.

There’s still a long way to go, but seeing the character of the home emerge at this stage is always something special.

More from Bitterne Way soon.

What clients wish they’d known before building.

Starting a project is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, especially in the early stages, when everything still feels a bit abstract.

Over time, we’ve seen that the projects which feel the smoothest aren’t necessarily the simplest, they’re the ones where the right things were considered early.

Most of the important choices are made long before anything is built.
Budgets shift through small decisions, not just one big one.
And it’s rarely the scale of a project that feels overwhelming, but the number of decisions along the way.

It’s why we stay closely involved from the beginning, helping guide decisions, reduce uncertainty, and make the process feel more straightforward from start to finish.

If you’re trusting someone with your home, it matters who’s behind the decisions.

Studio Maiva is led by Darren and Lucy, working closely with clients from the earliest ideas through to the final details on site.

Lucy focuses on how a home feels to live in day to day - making sure spaces are not just beautiful, but genuinely work for the people living in them.

Darren brings over 20 years of experience on the architectural side, making sure ideas translate into something that can be delivered properly - from planning through to build.

Together, they stay closely involved throughout, helping guide decisions, manage complexity, and keep projects moving in the right direction.

The name Maiva comes from their daughters - reflecting the personal care and long-term thinking that shapes every project.

Because a well-designed home should feel considered - from the first conversation to the final ‘champagne moment’.
