This is a perfect example of how even healthy looking trees can become hazards when ignored.

Should the tree have been removed long before this, or could the tree have been reduced into surrounding canopy lines to prevent extreme wind sail?

Absolutely.

Did it become a hazard?

Definitely.

We’re just thankful there was no pedestrians nearby when it came down! 😮‍💨

In tree work, clear communication between the climber and the ground crew isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. Knowing exactly when a cut is being made, where timber is going, or when to hold off can make all the difference to keeping everyone safe and the job running smoothly.

We’re off to the North Pole to do some tree surgery for Santa while he’s away but we’ll be back at JCTS HQ on the 5th January.

🌧️🌫️ STORM BRAM 🌫️🌧️

⚠️We’re experiencing some strong winds and lots of rain today. Never approach trees in this bad weather and stay away from wooded areas. ⚠️

What should you be aware of and look out for once the storm has passed through?

🌪️ Saturated Ground - Saturated ground can make trees unstable. Roots lose grip and in extreme cases can lead to uprooted trees. Look out for leaning and cracked soil.

🌪️ Hanging Branches - Be careful not to stand underneath hanging branches that have broken off from the tree. They can fall and are extremely hazardous.

🌪️ Cracks in the main tree trunk - cracks and splits can open when the tree moves. Cracks can be serious indicators of potential failure points.

🌪️ Sick Trees - Trees with fungus or mushrooms around the base can indicate internal rot or decay. This could make the tree a hazard in bad weather.

🌪️ Sudden Leaning - if a tree is suddenly leaning after standing straight and tall, it could indicate root damage.

It is essential to get professional advice on any tree you have concerns about, particularly if they overhang property, public spaces, cars or fields with animals in. Never attempt to inspect trees during a storm - if it’s an emergency - call a pro. We’re here to help come rain or shine!
