Simon took on Cox’s Stack this week... the tallest surviving industrial chimney in Scotland & decided to channel his inner Spider-Man while he was at it 🕸️😂

A smoking chimney isn’t just annoying, it’s usually a sign that something’s not right.

Blocked flue?

We’re still clearing a lot of blocked flues packed with twigs, moss, feathers and nesting material and most homeowners have no idea it’s there until the fire starts smoking badly.

A blocked chimney can lead to:

❌ Smoke backing into the room
❌ Dangerous fumes
❌ Poor airflow
❌ Increased fire risk

🔥 Out working on Ralston Bothy with Hot Tub chimney this week… and what a place 😍

Tucked away near Newtyle, Blairgowrie, this bothy is absolutely stunning. Proper countryside views, cosy fire, and even a hot tub to top it off 🔥🛁

Safe to say… we were very tempted to stay 😅

If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, we’d definitely recommend checking it out.

🔥 Little things make a big difference…

“Is that mortar round the liner Felix?” 👀

It is indeed , but there’s a reason for it.

This liner had been sitting off to the side of the pot, which meant the airflow was getting restricted and the stove was smoking badly into the room.

By getting the liner centred properly and secured in place, the airflow is now spot on… and according to the customer:
🔥 “It goes like a steam train now.” 😅

Pete explained it best:
A ring of insulation material is squeezed between the liner and the pot first, which stops the cement from falling down the chimney and keeps everything nicely supported.

It’s jobs like this that show how important proper installation and maintenance really are. Small issues at the top can cause big problems below.

This is exactly the sort of thing we’re coming across more and more.

Debris and build-up sitting right at the top of the flue..... slowly restricting airflow and putting unnecessary strain on the liner.

Left long enough, this can lead to:
❌ Poor burning
❌ Smoke issues
❌ Costly damage to the liner

The good news?
Caught early, it’s completely preventable.

A proper sweep and check keeps everything clear, protects the liner, and keeps your fire running safely 🔥
