Happy World Bear Day!!!

Here’s a sneak peek of what one of my bears is gradually becoming… this is his underpainting phase, so still has a way to go.

Bears have been on my mind a lot today, been thinking about how they act as guardians for children in the form of teddy bears. It’s such a gorgeous way to see them, night time protectors. I’m holding that vision for the bear I’m currently working on, he has a very magical vibe.

Did you have a teddy bear? Mine was a Panda - I sadly no longer have him, but do have fond memories. The money raised by this Trail goes to the Perth YMCA - so will be supporting children and young people which is very apt.

Getting closer… I sometimes get confused by certain elements of a picture. Rather frustratingly I have to do certain steps in the right order before the next stage becomes clear... Swirl is one of those elements. I can’t ‘see’ it yet, so will have to be patient.

Latest commission underway — a fox in my icon style — and I find myself reflecting on what many would call a portfolio career. I wear many hats, spin many plates, and move between community arts, sculpture, facilitation, and painting.

But at the heart of it all is this: liminal spaces and magical realism.

I’m drawn to the places in-between — where story meets soil, where imagination meets embodiment, where something ancient quietly remembers itself through form and colour. The fox feels like a perfect companion for this moment: threshold walker, quiet observer, keeper of wild intelligence.

If you want to understand my passion, all you have to do is look at my bookshelf. It’s a blend of childhood fairy tales and folklore alongside contemporary retellings — stories that honour mystery, resilience, and transformation. These narratives shape how I work, how I create, and how I hold space for others.

Whether I’m painting, building puppets, facilitating constellation work, or creating community experiences, the thread is always the same: helping people reconnect with meaning, creativity, and belonging.

Art, for me, isn’t decoration.
It’s a way of expressing how I see the world.

It’s a strange thing - vision. You follow the prompts, it’s like being the back seat driver. That has to be this shade of blue, that needs to be tweaked - the orb behind has to be warmer than silver, so the orangey glow can hit the edges… it’s almost like dreaming into reality.
