Dunlady Plants & Herbs Family run, part-time nursery - many shrubs, trees, herbs and more for sale. Currently selling off most of the stock so come and grab a bargain!

Small part-time family run nursery, originally founded by Nick Burrowes. Simon, his son, is now running the nursery part-time. The address is 34 Dunlady Road, Dundonald, BT16 1TT. We are right next to the road at the top of the hill and on the left hand side if you're coming up from Dundonald. No regular opening hours, but Simon is generally available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. I

Today marks the sad announcement that the nursery is officially closing today. After much deliberation and thought I have come to the conclusion that this is the right decision for my family and for me. It was a part-time venture for me so it was always going to be difficult to grow alongside my other work and also growing a family of 5 children!

Thank you to all who have supported the nursery and taken delight in finding many herbs and other plants that you don't really find in other nurseries and garden centres, which is something I have always taken pride in and is a heritage of Nick, my father, who started the nursery 30 odd years ago. I know therefore this news will be a disappointment to some of you, but there are still quite a few plants left over so do get in contact if you are in need of any!

Do feel free to get in contact if you are ever looking for hard to get herbs in the future. I'll definitely still be growing them as a hobby gardener and it's always lovely to share them with others!

Our gardens are beginning to wind back as we get into Autumn, but there is still plenty of interest to be found. Pictured is fascicularia bicolor (or crimson bromeliad) which is simply stunning as you can see for yourself. The scarlett foliage starting coming through in early August and should last all the way through autumn, perhaps even into winter. Likes a well drained soil and a sunny sheltered position. You can buy well established plants now from £19, or there are some smaller ones for £5 - they are lacking the flower and red rosettes this year, but next year you will be rewarded!

I have never felt comfortable with spraying chemicals on plants, especially edible ones, so if I have to spray the herbs, it’s only with an organic solution. PLUS this year I am also trying out an organic liquid fertiliser! So you can rest assured that any herbs/edible plants you buy from me won’t have anything unnatural 😀🪴
