Langthorns Plantery

Langthorns Plantery Specialist in top quality garden plants and trees, with an eye for the more unusual species as well as popular old timers.

Langthorns Plantery was established in 1977 by Philippa and David Cannon and has been run by their son, Ed Cannon since 2000. Plantery as a name, originated here, as we didn’t fit the brief for a Garden Centre and Nursery tended to either mean wholesale growers or kids playgroup. We are neither and so the Plantery was born. We are passionate about plants and constantly seek out new and exciting sp

ecies, as well as keeping a good range of popular old timers. Plants for every aspect of every garden are encompassed in our vast range. Home propagation is in our makeup and we do as much as time will allow.

Plant of the week is Hydrangea macrophylla Tiffany Pink,it’s a lacecap variety meaning the flower heads have tiny fertile flower in the middle which are surrounded by a ring of these gorgeous pink and green bicoloured flowers. Which are offset nicely by its lush green serrated leaves.
It's a great compact plant which grows well in mixed shady border or in containers on the patio as it only gets to about 4ft. 🌱

Plant of the weekend is Veronica Magic Show Ever After. It’s prized for its blue flower spikes which can reach a foot tall and start flowering in late spring and will go on for months especially if it’s continuously deadheaded.
They are perfect for the front of the border as they are a compact plant or they look great in pots on the patio, plus they’re loved by bees and butterflies.

Creating a real buzz is our plant of the week, Stachys byzantina Silver Carpet or Lamb’s Ears.
They’re a great ground cover plant prized for having velvety, silver-grey foliage and not needing much upkeep. It’ll thrive in full sun and once established it’s highly drought tolerant.
While they don’t often flower they have for us this year and the bee’s can’t get enough of the purple flowers 🐝

Plant of the weekend is Eriobotrya japonica commonly known as Loquat.
It’s a superb architectural and tropical-looking tree with huge, dark green leathery leaves. It has clusters of highly scented white flowers in early summer which in mild regions produce yellow/ orange fruits.
They can be grown in gardens as an evergreen specimen or in pots on the patio.
