July 2025 - Listed Building Consent granted for proposed repairs and adaptations at Keelmens Hospital in Newcastle!

Keelmens Hospital, Grade II* listed, vacant for over 20 years and on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register, was built as an almshouse in 1701. Unusual at the time, it was not built by rich people to provide charity - instead, it was founded by the working class Keelmen for their own poor and sick.

Once completed, the historic building will provide affordable housing in one-, two- and three-bedroom flats.

Maya Polenz acts as the Conservation Lead for this project, alongside JDDK Architects as project lead. She provided the Heritage Statement and Heritage Impact Assessment to support the successful Listed Building Consent application.
