Finally finished this fantastic project for the Salvation Army, and we’re incredibly proud to have been trusted with our second roofing contract for such a respected charity here in the UK.

This project involved stripping off all of the original asbestos slates, which were professionally removed and disposed of by Best Demolition. We then counter-battened the existing roof with 50x25mm battens before installing TLX Gold breathable felt to improve the roof’s thermal performance and future U-value.

New 25x50 battens were fitted and the roof was finished with beautiful Del Carmen Ultra Spanish natural slates. We also renewed all leadwork, including the box gutters and chimney step flashings, before installing a dry ridge system to provide long-term ventilation and maintenance-free performance.

All firewalls, front and back, were finished with a fresh monocouche render coat, providing a clean and durable finish. We also treated all coping stones with two coats of HydroSeal liquid rubber coating for added protection and longevity.

To complete the project, we installed 98 solar panels on one of the roof sections. This investment will help reduce energy costs and enable the Salvation Army to continue their incredible work with lower running expenses in the future.

A huge thank you to the Salvation Army for once again putting their trust in us. It is a privilege to be involved in projects that make a real difference to the community, and we are honoured to have completed our second project for such a well-respected charity in the UK.

It’s been a busy and productive week for us at Eastbourne Roofing Contractors!

Over the past week or so, our team has been hard at work installing solar panel systems on seven bungalows in Firle just outside Eastbourne, working alongside local electrical company CDS. The project has involved fitting roof hooks, rails, panels, and bird meshing to ensure everything is secure, efficient, and built to last.

This installation is all about improving energy efficiency for the local school and the surrounding community—helping reduce energy costs and move towards a more sustainable future for everyone involved.

A big well done to the team for their hard work and dedication on this project 👏

If you’re considering solar or roofing work, feel free to get in touch—we’re always happy to help or if you just want some honest advice.

We recently completed a heritage peg tile roofing project in the summer of 2025. Working in Rodmell Lewes for a local builder, Kane Building — and it’s one we’re really proud of.

This was a full strip and re-roof, where we carefully removed all existing materials and salvaged as many original components as possible — including peg tiles, ridges, bonnets, and valley details. Every reusable piece was preserved and reinstalled to maintain the character and authenticity of the roof.

All lead gutters where flitted with new code 5 lead, re decked to correct falls and the correct size bays.

We also sourced local Sussex peg tiles to ensure a seamless blend with the original tiling, helping the finished roof stay true to its heritage appearance.

Once stripped, we installed a Steico insulation system, filling the rafters with a breathable insulation component before fitting Steico tongue and groove boards over the top. The roof was then counterbattened, followed by the installation of a bat-safe felt membrane, ready for re-tiling.

A huge part of this project involved working closely with bat conservation specialists, as bats had been reported in the roof. Every single tile removed had to be individually checked before being stacked. We also installed dedicated bat tiles and ridges to ensure the bats can safely return and continue to inhabit the space.

To finish, all original and reclaimed tiles, bonnets, and fittings were reinstated. All ridges, verge’s, bonnets were laid with a lime-based mortar— keeping the build in line with traditional methods.

A great example of combining heritage roofing techniques with modern performance standards, while respecting local wildlife.

We recently had the pleasure of carrying out roofing works at Cavendish School Sports Centre 🏫

The site was experiencing issues with a leaking metal gutter, which had unfortunately started to cause damage to the studios inside—disrupting classes for the children.

Our team quickly got to work by safely erecting scaffolding to access the affected area. We then carried out a full preparation of the gutter, removing all rust and debris to ensure a solid surface for repair.

Next, we applied an Instaseal moisture-tolerant metal primer, followed by two coats of Instaseal liquid rubber coating. This high-performance system provides a durable, watertight seal with an expected lifespan of up to 20 years.

We’re pleased to say the issue has now been fully resolved, protecting the building and allowing classes to continue without disruption 👍

If you’re experiencing roofing issues, feel free to get in touch—we’re always happy to help!

Another successful project completed in Eastbourne! 🏡🔨

We’ve just finished a full re-roof where we stripped off the existing natural slate and carried out a complete upgrade to ensure the roof is built to last.

Our team counter battened the roof, installed new breathable felt and treated battens, and then carefully refitted new natural slate across the entire roof. We also installed brand new ridge tiles along all hips and the main ridge line to give the roof a clean, secure finish.

As part of the works, we replaced the front lead box gutter with new lead and coated all the front walls with Hydroseal liquid rubber paint to provide long-lasting protection against the elements.

Another property now fully protected and looking great!

This one kept us busy over the winter months. A full strip and recover on Meads Parish hall. We was honoured to be asked to carry out the works to such an old and iconic building in Meads.

Once we stripped the old tiles, felt and batten off. We was able to increase the insulation on the building by using TLX gold insulation felt in the process. We used a new Acme tile on the roof and finally we fitted new lead flashing where needed.
