Can one upgrade really make a difference to your home’s energy performance?

A recent case study from IndiNature shows it absolutely can and here are some key points from our Senior Retrofit Coordinator, Marc 💡

By installing loft and room-in-roof insulation, a typical home saw:
• A 10-point improvement in its Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating
• Roof performance jump from 1 star to 5 stars on the EPC
• Energy bill savings of around £700 per year

Even better, this kind of work is often grant-funded, meaning many homeowners and landlords could make these improvements at little or no cost. Installation is usually quick too, taking around 2–3 days depending on the home.

The insulation used was hemp-based and carbon negative, meaning it locks in carbon while helping reduce energy use 🌱

Another important benefit: insulation helps reduce condensation, which lowers the risk of mould forming in the home. While it doesn’t directly improve air quality, reducing mould helps prevent one of the main causes of poor indoor air quality.

As well as the above with just one additional upgrade such as underfloor insulation or solar PV, the property could reach an EPC C rating or higher.
