A Bold New Chapter for a Grand Victorian Home
We’re pleased to share renderings of one of our current projects—a contemporary zinc-clad extension to a magnificent four-storey Victorian house in Edinburgh’s Grange Conservation Area.
The existing home, set on a stepped site, had a somewhat disconnected layout, with the north-facing kitchen and dining space at lower ground level feeling isolated from the rest of the house. Accessed via a dark service stair and with a single door providing access to the garden, the space lacked natural light and a strong indoor-outdoor connection.
Our design introduces a striking split-level extension that serves as both a link and a new living space. Clad in zinc, it houses a study, a library mezzanine, and a dramatic birch-ply panelled, double-height living area that extends beyond the original rear wall. Generous glazing, feature rooflights, and high-level windows flood the new spaces with daylight, transforming the feel of the home and enhancing its relationship with the garden.
With planning consent secured and the first phase of internal works complete, we’re looking forward to the next stage of this exciting transformation.
