We have been undertaking design work on a new beachside sauna for an existing hotel, providing an amenity for relaxation, health and wellbeing for guests.

The sauna would be a space to relax and decompress, with a large picture window capturing the view.

A perfect escape from the pressures of modern-day life. Direct access to the white sand beach provides a cooling-off with a welcome dip in the sea!

Continuing our previous posts about the design work GLM’s architectural team have been undertaking to remodel an existing hotel, improving circulation and accessibility has been key for modernising the hotel.

The existing corridors to the bedrooms were dark and unwelcoming. We have looked at using a fresh material palette for these spaces, with lighter walls, timber floors and door linings, and enhanced lighting. Break-out spaces provide opportunities for natural light, views, and relaxed seating for guests.

Continuing our previous post about the design work GLM’s architectural team has been undertaking to remodel an existing hotel, we have also been looking at the interior of the public spaces.

The reception area has been remodelled to create a more welcoming open plan space, providing visual connections to guest facilities such as the lounge and restaurant.

As with the bedroom suites, the public areas also have a modern take on Scandi/Scottish design, with a fireplace nook providing welcoming warmth for the cooler winter nights.

GLM have been undertaking design work to remodel an existing hotel. The building sits perched on the coast, but doesn’t currently make the most of the stunning beachside location.

Our proposals involve creating new projecting bay windows for each guest bedroom to relax and take in the view. By combining two bedrooms, enlarged suites are created, providing enhanced accommodation with a living space off each bedroom.

Another option provides a two-bedroom superior suite for families and small groups. The bedroom interiors are a modern take on Scandi/Scottish design with a slightly nautical twist - natural timber flooring, white shiplap wall lining, hidden recessed sliding doors and upholstered soft furnishings.

Last week, we marked a very special milestone for GLM: our 30th anniversary.

To celebrate, we welcomed friends, clients, colleagues, and collaborators to The Scottish Cafe at the Scottish National Gallery for an evening of cocktails, canapés and celebrations in the heart of Edinburgh.

Reaching 30 years in business is something we are incredibly proud of. Since 1996, GLM has grown and evolved, but our focus has remained the same: helping clients understand, care for and unlock the potential of existing buildings.

The evening gave us a chance to pause, reflect and thank the people who have been part of that journey, from long-standing clients and trusted partners to past and present team members.

It was a brilliant evening, and a real reminder that GLM’s story has always been about more than the work we do. It’s about the people, relationships and shared trust built over the last three decades.

Our sincere thanks to Contini Events Edinburgh and The Scottish Cafe for hosting us, and to Blue-Sky Photo Studio for so beautifully capturing the evening.
