Whether it's just cutting your grass and keeping your borders weed free or trimming your hedge and advising on colour and scent.

Greyfriars Kirk floral display starting to break into colour with the Tete a Tete Narcissus flowering. The circle has Cineraria (silver dust) in the inner with black Violas filling the remaining space. Last but not least a mixture of Pansies providing the multicolours around the outer border. Soon be time for the first cut.

Some cemetery work completed in February before the start of nesting season. This Privet hedge looks neat with the headstones set inside. Grass had a high cut and strim too to finish off.

Just a small selection of shrubs, perennials and bulbs that have battled through the cold to brighten up the start of the new season. Lighter nights and milder days are helping these flourish helping our early rising bees and other insects feed.

As we welcome 2026 and get back to some form of normality what better way to start than with a large hedge in Greyfriars kirkyard. Normally I cut this in September however I’ve left it later as it’s been really mild and didn’t want it producing a lot of new growth as it only gets cut once a season.

The Privet produced about 18-24 inches of growth and looked abit scruffy considering the surrounding landscapes, however it’s now looking nice and sharp where you can see Edinburgh Castle in the background in the final picture.

There’s never an excuse needed to have stripes in the grass but this weekend is doors open day in Greyfriars Kirk. The Covenanters prison will be open so people can stroll around part of what’s considered the most haunted churchyard in the world. The friends of Greyfriars Kirk will be doing free tours with donations welcome I’m sure which are very interesting. If you don’t feel the presence of the poltergeist you can admire the Non Stop Begonias as you walk through the main gates.

First cut this hedge last year reducing it in height and again giving it a tight cut to keep it looking sharp. Mixture or Beech, Hawthorn and Pyracantha (have the thorns to prove it). Will be back late February to tidy any growth before the birds start nesting.

A years worth of growth trimmed off this Privet hedge 😁

Good bit of growth on this hedge but now the birds have finished nesting it was time for a hair cut. Might need another slight trim either before the winter sets in or just before march next year.

A few months since my last post but I haven’t been hiding it’s just been extremely busy. Time to start working my way through some of this seasons work and also add in some friends and flowers that have popped into my phone gallery.

This was the original lawn laid 40 years ago when the house was built. Although it’s been fed, watered raked it was time to be replaced.

An extremely hot couple of days from start to finish but the result was fantastic. We stripped it back added quality turf mix which is a mix of sand soil and green goodness which helps drainage, root stability and slow release feed in the crucial early days/weeks.

The next day quality fresh turf was laid within 12 hours of being harvested from the field and the sprinkler was on.

The final picture was its first cut around 2 weeks later using the to create a professional finish to a high quality project.

This garden had been looked after for a few years now, always bursting with colour and the pansies aren’t disappointing. Every autumn the border is given a final w**d and perennials cut back then a thick layer of quality mulch added. Finished off with a first cut which doesn’t look too bad for a wet lawn.

Spoilt in my new clients garden, beautiful spring flowering plants with a welcome coffee and chat. Couldn’t resist taking these photos and sharing them. First 3 pictures are Dicentra (Bleeding Hearts) which are equally stunning in pink or white and a wee favourite of mine. After these wee beauties are the established Pieris (left) and Skimmia in flower (right). We then have the deep red Camilia and last but certainly not least the stunning blue Corydalis
