Just seen this post and had to share π²
From Friday 1st April 2022, residents will be required to pay for the disposal of DIY waste from works, improvements, repairs, alterations, and demolition at your home address. This includes rubble, hard core, soil, ceramics, glass, and plasterboard. To ensure residents can continue to dispose of materials for which you may otherwise need to hire a skip the fairest way to manage this waste is to make a small charge for users of the service.
DIY and construction waste from home improvements is not classed as household waste therefore we have no legal duty to accept it at the recycling centres. Charging for certain types of waste will help to reduce the increasing costs of disposal and further prevent the misuse by traders. It will also reduce the disposal tonnages and help to increase recycling rates.
π Charges per bag - Β£3.70 per bag (bag size 800m x 600m)
π Charges per ceramic item - Β£3.70 per item
Charges will not apply to
βοΈ Garden pots
βοΈ Crockery
βοΈ Fish tanks
βοΈ Domestic garden ornaments
metal and plastic baths
βοΈ Plastic shower trays and plastic cisterns
βοΈ Turf stripped of excess soil
Payments can be made by credit or debit card onlyon arrival. Cash and cheques will not be accepted. The total cost will be calculated by the site staff. The decision of the Site Duty Manager is final. Anyone unwilling or unable to pay will be asked to leave the site with their items. Charges will apply to everyone.
Alternative disposal of rubble:
βοΈ You can dispose of bulky waste or rubble by hiring an authorised private skip or waste removal services. To ensure you don't fall foul of a fly-tipper, follow this simple checklist:
βοΈ Use a reputable company
only deal with a company or tradesperson with a 'Registered Waste Carriers Licence'
βοΈ Check the registration details by telephoning the Environment Agency: 08708 506506
βοΈ Get a receipt for the waste removed and take down the vehicle registration number and name of company
βοΈ Get several quotes
Please dispose of rubble responsibly. If you have seen anyone fly tipping or come across any, please report it here:
