It’s all about the detail: We find it’s the little things that can elevate the ordinary. We were asked to develop a design for these two units for a small developer.

Cost and location can often limit what you can do with form. So we looked at cost effective ways of adding a little character and individuality to each unit. Brick has become a material that is having a renaissance! With variety in colour, texture and bond, it provides an opportunity to be playful and creative in the way you dress a building.

We used two different colour bricks for each unit which creates a striking contrast. Gable ends can often be dull and uninteresting elevations. We decide to utilise it as a canvas for the brickies giving them an opportunity to test out their skills in creating a diaper (not a babies nappy but a diamond effect brick bond 😜) pattern which wraps around to the front elevation creating a unique corner detail!

Good design doesn’t have to be expensive. lt just takes time and thought. 😉

Old School….with a twist 😉

This proposal for a 3 bed property takes some cues from some of its surroundings with its gambrel roof and red brick.

We decided to add a sprinkle ✨of the contemporary with the dark timber clad entrance, dormer and garage. The contrast in colour allows the prominent form and characteristic of the house to be maintained without compromising the additional space requirements.

Taking a Client’s idea from a napkin sketch to create a building is always an interesting process. As Architects we try and unravel those thoughts and explain them in a way that is simple and clear to understand. This is often through discussions and initial sketches or diagrams which helps them to see how the design ideas evolve.
