+The design for has undergone multiple iterations of both traditional and contemporary schemes on a site previously of a cluster of dated bungalow houses.

Despite a challenging planning process, a greater understanding of the history and site constraints enabled a sophisticated arts and crafts house. The turreted entrance leads to the central section of the L-shaped house with interconnected communal spaces and a coherent circulation throughout.

+Photograph of taken on a sunny day. The oriel bay window seat creates a direct connection between the living room and the rear garden maximising the views out and inviting natural light into the house. The use of black bricks was a conscious decision to create a more contemporary elevation befitting a modern family.

+Arguably one of the most well-preserved Arts and Crafts houses in the West End Esher has undergone a major refurbishment and extension sympathetic to the original dwelling.

The site was originally developed in the early 20th century and the main design principle for the proposals is to retain the character of the existing house. The new extension to has provided a larger kitchen and an additional bedroom on the first floor. Internally, the layout has also been altered to create a more coherent plan to meet the client's brief.

is a 10,000 sq. ft. new-build house, designed in the style of Neoclassical architecture. The neoclassical style at the southwest end of the Estate refers back to the English baroque of the Grade-II Listed Vanbrugh wall and the neo Palladianism of the Mansion Block.

CONTEXT
The original Estate, designed by Blaire Imrie, was predominantly built up with houses in the Arts and crafts architectural style. Some later original houses were designed in Imrie’s angilicised International Style.

Further houses have been added in the post war period. Over the past couple of decades, a number of the original houses have been demolished and replaced in a variety of styles such as arts and crafts, Neo classical, and contemporary.
