This week is my personal favourite tropical plant, canna Lillies 😍

These beautiful flowers come in a few varieties of both leaf and flower colours! I have found them to be relatively easy to care for despite our cold weather, however the slugs and snails do have a taste for them 😋 so I’d recommend planting them near lavender as the scent deters them 🐌

✨Tips Tuesday✨

This week is specifically focused on helping people with smaller gardens. The best way you can make the most of your limited space is use your vertical space wisely!

Selecting tall flowers such as alliums and verbenum is a great way of adding colour while not using a large amount of space 🤩.

You can also grow climbing plants such as clematis, Virginia creeper or wysteria up your fences using trellis!
This will give you a much softer boarder, as well as hiding the fence, giving the illusion of a bigger space 😍

This week is one I’ve been holding out on waiting for my own to bloom 😍 Pond Lilies!

As I have mentioned before, I have a big love for fish keeping, and pond Lillie’s are a big reason why I love having a pond 😍.

Their general care is simple:
- they normally prefer being approximately 30cm- 100cm deep, however it does vary so I’d recommend researching the species you have.
- they are quite vigorous with their nutrient consumption, so an annual feed will benefit them immensly 😋

✨Tips Tuesdays✨

As it’s the height of summer, I decided to go for a commonly known, but important and useful reminder to deadhead your flowering plants! This will encourage more flowers to bloom for longer during the summer!

I try to deadhead any flowers I notice have any discolouration and/or missing petals as this means the plant hasn’t put much energy into maturing the flower into fruit etc. I would also like to mention I have found that this is particularly beneficial for roses and annuals such as geraniums to keep them looking their best 🤩

This week is euphorbias!

Euphorbias are quite a diverse group of plants in terms of size especially. They have tiny alpine variants (picture 2) through to what could be considered a hedge ( Wulfenii picture 1).

Overall, euphorbias are easy to grow, commonly preferring full sun, but some species do like better in partial shade. They are unfussy on soil types and don’t require too much watering unless the weather is particularly dry! ☀️

✨Tips Tuesday✨

This week is all about being diligent! Watering your plants during summer 🥵

Now that the sun is finally coming out this week, you may notice your plants in need of an extra drink! The best time to do this is either early in the morning or late evening as the peak of the heat is gone for the day, meaning your plants won’t lose water from evapouration ☀️

This week is a banger! Lupins!

These striking flowers come in a variety of colours; white, red, blue, pink, purple and yellow to mention a few! They also have an amazing tall structure where a strong stem shoots upwards opening flowers up until it hits its peak!

Word of warning though! I have often found that lupins need extra care as they are extremely susceptible to aphids. An easy way to cure this is buying a bug spray, but, being vigilant with this is sure to reward you with an amazing display!

This week is a well known plant which often grows out of control for many people who don’t know how to manage it! The smoke bush! 💨

These plants are known for their hazy looking flowers (hence the name) and for the fact that they grow so fast! However there are ways to control this;

1- smoke bush’s can handle vigorous pruning so it’s easy to control how large they grow.
2- I’ve had success with keeping mine in a pot, this restricts how big they can grow and keeps them nice and tidy looking ☺️👨🏻‍🌾

Hey everyone! I have another great project I want to share with you guys 😊

I made these cupboards a few months ago out of reclaimed timber! We live in a new build and as everyone knows, we had no real storage other than our loft!

Please message me if you have a similar project in mind! I’d be happy to help ☺️

✨Tips Tuesday✨

This weeks tip is about knowing your soil! Knowing which type of soil you have in your garden is great for choosing plants which will thrive! 😊

For example in Devon we famously have very clay soil, which is very good for growing plants such as Hostas, Roses and Rudbeckia! However sandy soil is suitable for carrots, lavender and alliums! 🌸

This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t grow plants that prefer another type of soil than you have in your garden, but it would help if you planted them with compost surrounding them which is suitable for them!

Pittosporum 🤩

This is probably my favourite type of shrub as it offers year round colour! I personally only have the silver variegated species, however, there are also yellow, green and even purple variants! They are easy to grow as they can grow in a wide range of soils and climates, so you can’t lose!

I would love to one day have a border made of pittosporum around a patio / seating area as it’s such a lovely backdrop for any garden!
