This is a garden we have been making over last week in Silverton. Although we specialise in tree pruning, we cover a wide range of garden services including, tree removal, hedge trimming, strimming, mowing, green waste clearance, stump grinding and more. You need the correct tools, plenty of experience, qualifications, and a lot of hard work! It's always rewarding to see the end result for us and for the customer. This garden was in the conservation area so an application was submitted for tree removal, which is also something I can submit to the council. Please feel free to contact me for a free quotation on Facebook, WhatsApp, or phone 07826161033.

The journey through flowering trees continues.
This flowering season is early this and as always goes too soon. So I have a lot to fit in!
Location - My garden mid Devon! March/April 2026.
The Camelia. An evergreen native to Southern and Eastern Asia. Technically a winter flowering tree, that continues into the spring. They come in a variety of different colours and can be an ideal shrub or small tree for the garden, and provides some great colours in late winter. Tea is produced from the leaves in some countries like Japan.

We continue the journey through flowering trees. Location, mid Devon, March 2026.
The Magnolia. Like many flowering trees they are earlier this year! A native to the Himilayas and beyond. Early botanists would have been in awe after discovering these magnificent flowering trees. They brought back examples and planted them in the uk with great success. There are many varieties, that come with different coloured flowers, including the Evergreen 'Grandiflora', which flowers in mid summer. There are some very large magnolias located in some parks and gardens especially in south Cornwall. These are an ideal tree to plant in the garden. They are hardy, colourful, and can be easily pruned and maintained as a small or large tree.

The Rhododendrons, located in Killerton Gardens, Devon, 21/3/2026. As you can see it some species and variants can become trees, although they are often shrubs. A native to Nepal and beyond and is Nepals national flower. Pioneering botanists would have been thrilled to have found these amazing flowering plants, which they then brought back to the uk. They come in different shapes and sizes though similar in many ways. I was fortunate enough to work in Exbury gardens in the new forest as a tree surgeon, which is the largest collection of Rhododendrons in the world! Working with the curator was a fantastic learning experience. He knew almost every single plant in Latin name, even if it wasn't flowering! A good choice in many UK gardens with the option of your preferred colour and size. Flowering from March to April, with some flowering later.

A journey through flowering trees
8/3/26
Prunus domestica otherwise known as the Plum. Very similar to the previous post, the Blackthorn, but producing tasty edible fruit in July. There are some different varieties including the Victoria plum. This is known as a champion tree, located in Cullompton, it is huge for a plum, and is possibly around 100 years old. I was told by the landlord that it produced masses of fruit last year! By the end of next week this huge array of bright white flowers will be gone, the leaves will appear and the fruit will begin to form.

Another mature apple tree pruned and reduced for maintenance purposes in Bradninch. Apple trees recover from pruning, remarkably well. Clean and sharp tools are important as well as timing. There is still a small window of opportunity to prune your Apple and pear trees (end of March). I still have a few spare days in my diary should you require assistance. Please message on Facebook or 07826161033.

Let's go on a journey through flowering trees. I will be posting different flowering trees as they appear throughout the year, to pass on some of the knowledge I have attained from years of tree surgery. That way you may also get some ideas of trees you might like to plant in the future. This is The Purple Plum (Prunus cerasifera 'purpurea'). Wonderful pink/purple flowers forming in February, depending on the variant, followed by purple leaves. One of the first trees to flower in late February/March. A nice deciduous, ornamental tree to bring a some colour to the garden in the winter. Pruning is preferred in the summer months, and winter pruning should be avoided.
