Early evening light in the garden (before the glorious cacophony of last nights thunder and lightning). Good for the plants to get a thorough soaking before the heat came in too, which is well and truly here now!

I’m also hoping the cooler feel of these photos might help bring my body temperature down in this heat šŸ˜‚

The garden full of life and colour.

The poppies and calendula are coming out. The roses amongst the Stipa gigantea are looking fab. And the echinops and echinacea are close now too!

On top of all that it’s been a lovely weekend. Father’s Day with my boy, Arlen, has been a hoot.

Summer’s back! The garden was bathed in sunshine earlier today, which was a real joy!

Rufus enjoyed trotting round it too. For such a fluffy dog he really does like to sunbathe - he’s now found some nice cold stone to lie on.

It’s been overcast the past couple of days but that hasn’t stopped the visitors to the garden. It’s been glorious to see bees and butterflies aplenty.

The poppies have started to come out and the echinacea, echinops and calendula might be out in time for the open garden on Sunday week (28th June), fingers crossed! It’ll probably come round too soon for the gladioli, but the lavender should still have most of its lustre.

A sunny Sunday in the garden.

A day spent pottering, and harvesting strawberries with Arlen - which got gobbled-up pretty promptly šŸ’š

Deadheading and supporting a few plants was the order of the day, and just play and relaxing. A rather blissful, lazy day all told.

An early morning tour down the garden - crunching down the garden path.

Summer was upon the garden during the sliver of sun we had this morning, before the clouds and grey skies rolled in.

The santolina and lavender are all flowering now, poppies and cosmos coming through too, and the roses at the end of the garden in bloom too.

Sunshine in the garden! The lavender is a beacon for bees at the moment - a most vibrant of purples! Despite all the rain we did have the sun breakthrough this morning.

I’ve been using more supports than normal for this time of year, as many of the perennials (such as the Leucanthemum vulgare, Knautia macedonica, and Verbena bonariensis) have become laden with water - no doubt they’ll bounce back after a few days of sun.

Golden hour in the garden.

I was up with the lark today, so it was a lovely opportunity to capture some shots of the garden in the early morning light. The soft golden rays bring a magical warmth to the garden - washing it with warmth, colour, and a quiet beauty.

I don’t think I have the energy to capture it all the time, haha, but certainly worth it every once in a while!

Whilst everything is looking a little rain bartered at the moment it’ll all be the better for it.

Peonies, poppies, and roses have all taken a good whack and the grasses and taller perennials are drooping a little under the weight of water they hold.

A day or so of sunshine however and the garden will bounce back again.

It’s been much asked for, so here it is - my plant list for year round colour, interest, and structure. Do scroll through for a drawn plan of the garden too as, like the plant list, a lot of people have been asking for recently.

Natural abundance underpins the design of the garden. A path snakes down the garden through oversized beds - slowing the journey and inviting the opportunity to immerse oneself within nature. The planting deliberately spills over the paths, softening the edges and bringing a tactile element to it. The garden is planted for seasonal interest and was built with sustainability in mind - repurposing many elements. It is also planted to be drought tolerant. I don’t water it, aside from plants in pots and anything that’s recently been planted.

Many elements are repeated throughout the garden to give it a sense of cohesiveness and flow. Evergreen shrubs and ornamental grasses form the backbone of the garden, with bulbs, perennials, self seeding annuals and tubers offering seasonal interest.

Three of the oversized beds are planted with an Amenlanchiar lamarkii, each bed has different perennial partnerships but the same structural plants. The fourth bed in front of the shed is planted with roses, lavender and Stipa gigantea to softly obscure the shed.

Planting list follows in a pond post.
