Layers are used to allow complex drawings to stay organised, flexible and easy to read. While DWG TrueView's layers are less functional compared to AutoCAD, you can still toggle them on and off to focus on specific details or make temporary changes, like highlighting an item in a different colour before printing.

Word of warning though. Layers can get messy if discipline has not been used during drafting.  Sometimes hiding layers does not work as smoothly as you would hope.

While Intersection and Endpoint snaps are enabled by default, you can override them by selecting another object snap tool. Remember to choose the measuring tool first, then the desired snap tool. In DWG Trueview, if you’re using snaps other than Endpoint or Intersection, you'll need to reselect the tool each time, even within the same measure command.

AutoCAD has three types of workspaces, and if you're using Autodesk DWG TrueView, these 3 spaces can all be viewed - but not added to. You can only view the paper space layouts and viewports that already exist in the drawing, you can’t create new ones or modify the ones that are there.

Receiving AutoCAD .dwg files without the software to open them can be frustrating for many of my clients. While I'm happy to convert them to .pdf files for easier viewing, there's actually a quicker solution available.

Autodesk DWG TrueView is a free download that allows you to view .dwg files and perform some basic actions. If you think this could be useful, you can download it here…
