Alice's Notes for June 🐝💜

🌷 Tidy up bulbs - I usually use a soft rake to remove any brown leaves but leave any that are still green. Bulbs reabsorb nutrients from green leaves so it is important to leave them for as long as possible. If you don’t like the aesthetics of browning leaves, consider covering them with shredded bark.

🤎 Bark can also serve as a really effective mulch, particularly as a top dress for pots, which tend to dry out quicker than bedding planted in the ground. We have a range of mulches available, including ‘Rocketgro Magic Mulch’ which I have been using for the first time recently.

🌿 Prune shrubs and trees that have finished flowering like Choisya ternata and Syringa vulgaris (Lilac), to get a second flush later in the year, or to ensure you are not leaving it too late and removing the new buds that will form flowers next year.

🌼 Finish planting annual beds and borders - at this time of year I like to identify the gaps and fill them with annual bedding like Nemesia and Bidens. These plants have done particularly well as annuals in our gardens in the past but sometimes it takes some trial and error. Give a variety of things a go and see what thrives in your garden!
