Saturday 16th May. 4.49am.

Drive back to Stornoway to catch the 7am to Ullapool.

Despite the forecasts we were blessed with sun every day. Dawn choruses, golden eagles and constant cuckoo callings.

And of course a very nice selection of Harris Tweed…….

The man. The cloth. The loom.

Everything was aligned when, in 1996 and as a younger man in his late 20s, I wandered along Luskentyre beach.

I spotted a simple shed in the dunes and went in. On several shelves were rolls and rolls of Harris Tweed.

I came away with 4 metres and a vague idea about what I might do with them.

This week I met who instantly recognised the cloth as one of his.

A man who after having weaved the Russian Twill that went on to be tailored into this jacket, was commissioned by Nike to weave Harris Tweed for them, and was later awarded the MBE.

An absolute honour and privilege to spend time with the man.
