The new building safety register is going to have a MASSIVE impact upon Building Control, building regs and how projects are approved and it will impact ALL of us. PAAD Architects have a number of events that we will be hosting in Frome's Great Big Green Week. One is a talk about how we as a practice have designed and built /converted our own low cost eco homes and the other is a tour of a couple of our eco renovations in Frome. Thanks to FTC for organising all of the great events.

The Great Big Green Week is a nationwide event, celebrating our green spaces and highlighting the action local communities are taking to tackle climate change.

NOW IS THE TIME TO START PLANNING.
Building material prices through the roof and materials as scarce as an efficient government. I know you will all be hearing about this and yes, it is true( on all counts).
All builders are struggling to get materials and as a result, building material prices are going up almost weekly. The reasons are both pandemic and Brexit. Talking to colleagues in the trade (one owns a major builders’ merchants), it will not get any better till spring 2022.
However, what this means is, if you are thinking of carrying out a project, now is actually a good time to get the process started, especially if it is a difficult project. What you will need is a good architect to guide you through the development and hopefully by the time you get the planning and the other procedures done, prices will be calming down. The only issue is which architect do you need…

URGENT.

If you want to decarbonise your home and get rid of your gas boiler, get a move on as the generous grants under the government's RHI will be capped as of April 2022 to £4k.
A current example is Terry's home where he replaced his old gas boiler with a Vaillant Air Source Heat Pump which cost £9k and will receive £7.5k back over the next 7 years.

Ps it doesn't have to be hidden away like ours.

We have been keeping this project relatively quiet for the past 4 years, but it has been been all consuming for various reasons, partly due to a public inquiry. At all times, PAAD have believed in this project as it encompasses almost everything we believe in, sensitive, contextual low carbon architecture that involves those it is designed around and is kind as possible to the environment. Well, today we found out we WON the Public Inquiry! Thanks to the entire team, and now lets get this building finished for my great clients.
