This project in Chilmark is starting to come together. We began on site in September with a large loft conversion to create two new bedrooms, a shower room and a feature staircase. The scope increased and we have also now installed new radiators throughout the house, replaced sockets, switches and lighting, redone the ground floor WC which was suffering from damp and redecorated. I love the colour combinations in the new loft spaces. Natural tones of timber and clay plaster with some bold colours to lift them. This has been a great, collaborative, project to work on with the whole team. Looking forward to having it ready to hand over to the client ready for their summer holidays.

May's talk was and to look at local stone. The quarry and workshop visit was amazing and the variety and quality of the products was incredible to see. Fantastic options for interior and exterior stone. Hadspen stone is mainly used for heritage projects where local listed buildings need repair and renovation. The quarry site is on a much smaller scale than you would imagine and only taken out the ground as needed. I know I'm a regular Newt visitor but it was so interesting to look at the different stonework and the stories behind the buildings.

I've been working on some very early designs for a new client. These drawings explore different roof profiles for a side extension and how the new interior layout will look for each option. This package of drawings includes existing drawings and three sketch options, plus some thoughts on materials. I visited the client for an initial chat and then to carry out a full survey, or as much as I could do on the day, it chose to absolutely pour with rain! The next stage will be to talk to about costs and choose a preferred option to take forward for a planning application. The client will then be ready to start on site with a clear idea of what they are building and an accurate quote from the contractors. Which option do you prefer?

After an enforced week off due to catching the dreaded covid, I've been thinking about what kind of content I share. What would you like to see more of? I have been making some mood boards recently, would you like some room inspiration? This photo was taken in the garden annexe bedroom at our house. I've totally neglected that instagram page, and I know you are probably all wondering if it is finished! At the moment all my services are based on face to face meetings but should I add in a virtual room consultation or colour confidence package? I'd love to know your thoughts.

A few before, during and after shots of our garden studio from a few years ago. This space is so versatile and a lovely addition to the house. I haven't spent much time in here recently as I have been busy out on site and at meetings but it is a perfect place to shut myself away and get some work done! I'm booking slots for design work in July onwards now so if you're thinking of planning any work for the end of the year or 2026 then get in touch now! It is absolutely never too early.

Beautiful morning with and chatting and getting to taste some delicious food! I have a recipe book addiction, I own so many, so of course I had to buy this one. Lunch is definitely the most neglected meal of the day too. Lovely ideas for lunches or light evening meals that are quick and easy to prepare. I'll definitely be making some of the amazing looking salad toppers and pickles. Beautiful venue as well.

This garage conversion already had planning permission but the interior layout wasn't working for the client. They needed some help to move the project on and achieve the outcome they were dreaming of for their new home. We had an in depth meeting where we walked through the house, discussing areas that work and the ones that don't and then we had a sit down to run through options and ideas. I revised the plans to improve the layout and include some work to the main living room on the first floor as well. The outcome was a document with floor plans, elevations, 3D views, an outline scope of work, kitchen plans and specifications and mood boards. I always aim to make my drawings informative and accessible for contractors and clients. I want you to have a simple and clear plan, whatever the budget or scale of the project. This project will be done on a modest budget but it will have a huge impact on the family who live here and that is always my goal. Investing in this process is almost more important on a small budget because it allows you to account for every penny and offer reassurance that you are spending it wisely. I'm not an interior designer who is out to encourage you to spend more either. This plan includes lots of the clients existing furniture which they needed and wanted to keep.
