Site meeting for technical design for the extension and renovation of this very tired stone cottage. Looks like this will also be our second hempcrete project!

The rear extension will be timber frame with hempcrete insulation and the existing house stone walls will be internally insulated with hempcrete also, as this material works extremely well regulating the moisture content in solid wall construction. H**p batt insulation will also be used between the rafters in the roof.

Bodychenan is our first hempcrete project, so we have been following construction closely to learn more about it. It was great to see the hempcrete mixed on site and then very easily shuttered between the timber frame. It has withstood all the cold and wet weather thrown at it by this exposed coastal location on the Llลทn Peninsula, North Wales. Our passive house rural enterprise dwelling for is now in pre-app. It is a humble design intended to minimise the impact on the landscape. The angle of the monopitch roof matches the slope of the site, keeping a low profile. The timber cladding and steel roofing are indicative of the rural barns near the site.

Site visit to Cae Hywel, Waunfawr, North Wales. We are really impressed with the workmanship by AJ Developments North Wales. The full retrofit has improved the thermal performance of the house with addition insulation throughout, including internal insulating cork-lime plaster to the walls. This has allowed us to run the heating using an air source heat pump, which has its energy consumption offset by photovoltaic panels.

We have just submitted a planning application for a rear extension to this house in Delamere Forest. The additional space creates a new kitchen-diner and snug. The overhanging roof will provide solar shading in the summer months and the heating will be provided by an air source heat pump.
