Every grant round reminds us just how much need exists across the Scottish Borders...
In our most recent grant round, we received applications totaling an whopping £10,159. Yet the funding available to distribute was just £2,500.
For our Board of Trustees, reviewing these applications was incredibly difficult. Behind every application was a story. A child who needed support. A family facing impossible choices. A community organisation doing everything it can to help local young people. Every application deserved funding, and every application highlighted the growing challenges many families are facing right now. 💔
With such limited funds available, the trustees had the heartbreaking task of deciding how best to make every pound count. Their priority was simple: support as many children and young people as possible.
We're proud to say that, despite the limited funding pot, we were able to provide part-funding to the majority of applicants, focusing specifically on food provision within school holiday clubs. This funding will help provide meals and snacks to 200 children and young people across the Scottish Borders.
For many children, free school meals are a vital lifeline during term time. When the school gates close for the holidays, that support disappears. For some families, the long weeks away from school can bring real worry about how they will keep food on the table. No child should have to face hunger simply because it's the school holidays.
This grant round is a powerful reminder of both the incredible work happening in our communities and the overwhelming demand for support. Without donations, it is impossible for us to help the children who need us most. The reality is that more families than ever are crying out for support, and the need continues to grow.
