Not all hope is lost, but in the UK, the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 makes it illegal to damage or destroy active nests. Birds typically nest between March and August, so it adds an extra layer of complication that isn't there outside of this timeframe.

Also, depending on the type of tree you want pruned, active growth periods are best avoided to prevent damage.

Congratulations, you've found one.

But in general, if you want to make sure you've found the right team for the job, there are a few checks you can make.

First off, reviews! Customers are going to be a lot more honest about the quality of an arborist's work than the actual arborist. We obviously think we're pretty great, but our customers do too, so it's fine.

Google reviews are a great way to check, just make sure to read the written reviews instead of just looking at a star rating. Then you can be sure you know what type of service to expect.

You can also ask to see their public liability insurance. Not having any form of insurance is a big red flag. While your pal may say they know a guy, that guy might just have a saw and a dream. Make sure they're insured and qualified.

Get some quotes! We're always happy to come out and have a chat before you commit to the work. If an arborist isn't happy to do that, there you go, another red flag!

We've all seen those trees that look like they're a light breeze away from toppling over, but is that fall inevitable?

Not necessarily.

If a tree has grown with a natural lean, then it isn't a problem. The tree will have grown roots to stabilise itself. Yes, it looks a little dramatic, but it won't cause any drama. It's just a bit of character.

However, if a tree grows straight and then develops a lean, there is the potential for problems, and you should consider calling us to have a look!

We're back to answer some frequently asked questions! To kick off, here's one we get a lot. So, do you need council permission to have tree work done?

It depends.

Generally speaking, in Glasgow you do not have to get council permission to prune or remove a tree, UNLESS it is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or is in a Conservation Area.

How do you know if your tree is protected or in a Conservation Area?

The Glasgow city council website does have online Interactive Mapping applications that can help, and some documents, but borderline cases can be hard to determine. That's something that we would be able to advise you on.
