TGP was delighted to have Ruth Ferguson, a 3rd-year Landscape Architecture student at Edinburgh University, join us as an intern this spring.

While academic study is essential, a professional office environment reveals the true variety of the discipline. During her time with us, Ruth moved beyond the classroom to engage with:
- Design development: From initial sketches to technical detail design.
- Planning and strategy: Navigating the complexities of live projects.
- Site visits: Exploring community gardens and historic gap sites.

Bridging the gap between the studio and the site is a vital step for any aspiring designer. We thoroughly enjoyed having Ruth's perspective in the office and wish her the best as she continues her studies.

We’re pleased to see progress on the proposed mixed-use development at Ingram Street, Glasgow, following the recent site purchase announcement.

The scheme will bring 109 new low-carbon homes alongside around 10,000 sq ft of ground-floor commercial space to the heart of the city centre, helping to support the continued regeneration of Merchant City. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with completion targeted for 2028.

TGP Landscape Architects are proud to be part of the wider consultant team contributing to this exciting project, helping to shape high-quality external spaces that complement the new homes and create a welcoming urban environment.

TGP are delighted to announce that Wheatley Homes South have been granted Planning Permission for nearly 300 new homes at Catherinefield Farm on the outskirts of Dumfries. The development features a Livingwell Block providing 41 flats for people aged 55 and over.

The landscape treatment links the rural setting to the housing with robust planting, whilst protecting the environmentally sensitive Catherinefield Moss Local Wildlife Site.

An Active Travel cycle routes link the development to Locharbriggs, whilst local play areas and seating will encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors and create a sense of community.

TGP works closely with Baker Hicks and provided landscape design support for the new SSEN energy offices and coordination building in Perth.

The Tay House site will be developed into a complex that provides monitoring and management offices, along with a secure car park in landscaped setting. Whilst Tay House is in a small business park, it is surrounded on two sides by residential properties.

The landscape treatment will serve to screen the development, whilst also enhancing the security measures required for this development providing breakout seating areas and enhanced biodiversity.

TGP is working alongside ECD Architects for Caledonian Housing Association, to develop a masterplan for Bellsmyre in Renton.

We have been working closely with the design team and client, replacing high rise blocks of flats with 204 new-build dwellings. The first phase of 66 homes at Muir Road is complete and now fully occupied, with the second phase along Whitford Avenue, providing a further 27 homes now under construction.

TGP prepared a landscape design for each of the developments, in line with the overall landscape masterplan to provide urban open spaces, private gardens and recreation areas.

The overall landscape setting also provides wildlife corridors to the nearby woodland Nature Conservation Site adjacent to Muit Road, to further support community wellbeing, enhanced local biodiversity and within the urban setting. We look forward to continuing our involvement in this project as further phases of the development are prepared.

Bare root trees offer far more than just an early start on site progress. They bring a range of practical, environmental and long-term benefits to both commercial and residential landscaping projects.

Native bare root trees are widely available and easy to source, whether you’re working alongside a landscape architect or liaising directly with a local nursery.

They are also a cost-effective option. Without pots, compost, or heavy packaging, bare root trees are significantly more affordable than container-grown alternatives, allowing project budgets to stretch further without compromising on quality.

Strength and adaptability are other major benefits. Because bare root trees are not acclimatised to a specific soil environment, they tend to establish more flexibly once planted, developing resilient root systems that support healthy, long-term growth.

From an environmental perspective, bare root planting aligns well with sustainable landscape practices. Minimal plastic packaging, reduced material waste and lighter transportation requirements all contribute to a lower environmental impact.

Whether you’re delivering a new housing development or enhancing a commercial landscape, bare root trees provide a versatile and forward-thinking solution.

Winter can often feel like the time to pause site activity and focus on plans for the months ahead - but that doesn’t have to be the case.

At TGP Landscape Architects, winter is an ideal time to consider bare root planting.

Bare root trees are supplied without soil, containers, leaves, or flowers. While they may look unassuming, this dormant state allows their root systems to establish efficiently once planted, making full use of available nutrients and supporting strong, healthy growth in the seasons that follow.

Because bare root trees are dormant during winter, they require fewer resources such as sunlight and water, and can be planted or relocated with minimal impact on their long-term health. Native bare root species are also particularly resilient, well-suited to UK conditions, and capable of thriving in more challenging environments over time.

As with any winter planting, ground conditions are key - frozen or waterlogged soil should be avoided to ensure successful establishment.

We’re excited to share that the Calton Village development in Glasgow has received not one, but two major awards that celebrate the project’s success on both a local and a national level.

The project has received the Excellence in Regeneration award at the CIH Awards in Glasgow, as well as the Best Regeneration Project at London’s Inside Housing Awards.

These awards focus on the impact a project can have on its community, recognising how the success of an accessible housing endeavour like Calton Village can pave the way for further improvements in the area. With future improvements at the forefront of the project goals, the development will continue to enhance the area on a long-term basis and provide a sense of community and togetherness for its residents.

Delivered alongside the Wheatley Group, Hypostyle Architects and McTaggart Construction, TGP is thrilled to see such amazing recognition for this important development, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
