KIRKLEES PARKING OBJECTIONS - OPEN EAMIL.
Good afternoonI wish to register my objection to the proposed parking charges for Birstall, (one of many facing increase), for the reasons below:
1. Charges would harm our local economy.
a. Those who travel to open their businesses would be subjected to charges totalling over £38 per six days, this would most likely attract price rises.
b. Persons visiting Birstall for shopping would be discouraged due to the fees, this would affect the businesses in Birstall and may even cause closures.
2. Other locations would see more obstructions and accidents.a. Local streets (such as mine), where residents find it difficult to park already would become substitute carparks, creating more chance of accidents especially to local children and obstructions.
3. This is just a money grabbing exercise because of mismanagement of council funds, attacking the motorist.
a. Just how much does Kirklees think this will bring in?
b. Less visitors to Birstall would mean less revenue for the meters.
c. Who will be enforcing? You would need at least one person for Birstall, then you’ve got all the other proposed areas?
d. Will the proposed revenue equal wages? For 1 traffic warden on minimum wage, for a 40 hour week would cost Kirklees £457.60, plus N.I. £158, Plus Pension £59 (rough estimates), I put it to you, wages will exceed revenue.
