I took the morning off today to spend some time at the careers fair, talking to their students about the benefits of working in the trades and offering advice on one day potentially owning their own business.

I have to say, I was blown away by some of the young adults I spoke to. Refocus is an Alternative Provision school offering what feels like a new start to students who will have struggled in mainstream school and become disillusioned with what they may have in store in the future. It would have been easy for me to have preconceptions about who I may be speaking to or meeting. BUT. I'm so glad I arrived with an open mind. These kids are driven, polite, confident and they left me genuinely felling so inspired. We are all quick to bash "trouble" kids too soon now, but today has really restored my hope it what the next generation can achieve.

I would encourage anyone out there with a business that would be in a position to support the school or give up their time to give these kids even further advice or experience to do so. It'll make such a difference I'm sure.

I've can honestly say i took as much away from today as I gave. I've had a good day.

As we come to the end of nesting season and on top of that a wild summer, hedge cutting and garden clearing will really keep us busy!

A cut back and shape of three tall Pyracantha hedges and a Leyandii conifer hedge was today's task in Great Houghton....Completed ✔️ Back soon to trim a beautiful Privet ball and get rid of some wild brambles 🌱 ✂️

Even better, it was done using our commercial range of battery power tools to ensure there was clean cuts, no fumes and less noise for our customer 💚

Today we completed a lovely little project in Bugbrooke, with the briefing of making this couples garden slightly less maintenance.

Mowing and tending to the lawn had become more problematic over time so their original idea was to simply gravel the whole area. However we were keen to keep the area functional and interesting. So we simply added the following -

- New yellow limestone shade patio. Garden is south-facing and area behind tree was only area of shade 🌤
- Beautiful curved limestone sett path 😍
- Mixed planting scheme with a focus of great bee friendly favourites including Perovskia, Scabiosa and English Lavender 🐝
- Stabilised gravel grids to allow a more steady base whilst tending to plant beds 🌱💧

Nearly every beautiful sunny back garden has a shaded front garden. But it can be just as beautiful.

The new owners of this house in Great Houghton had been left with a bit of a problem bed at the front of their property. 10m long, tired poorly looked after shrubs, poor soil, shallow drains, excessive concrete haunching, and only in the sun 2-3 hours a day.

We removed the majority of existing plants (reusing what we could), conditioned the soil - removing large debris and roots then mixed in moisture control compost, mulch and a chicken manure pellets as a natural fertiliser. Then it was ready for a mixed plant scheme of shade tollerant favourites including -

- Acer
- Fatsia Japonica
- Ferns
- Rodgersia
- Hellebore
- Brunner
- Astrantia
- Mahonia
- Euonymus
- Sarcococca
- Foxgloves

Hopefully we expelled the nonsense myth that nothing grows or looks great in the shade. Once established this bed with give the property some real kurb appeal! 🌿

Has been a really really busy start to the year for Gardener's View, with lots still planned for the spring & summer. But when we were asked by Allen @ Sons Renovations to help complete a patio asap for one of their clients in Desborough we were on hand!

There were long wet days but were really happy with the finished look (customers choice 👏). Nearly 65sqm of fossil sandstone with charcoal pointing. Will be followed up with new lawn and full flower beds! 🌸

In between the fencing repairs 🌪 and rain storms 🌧 we managed to find the time in February to do something a little special...

When we were approached by a lovely couple in Duston the brief was very much about freshening up this space and giving it back some purpose. So first up - remove artificial grass, replace log roll with curved sleeper wall and then border existing path with yellow limestone setts 💪

We then wanted to create a "fairy garden" style space for their granddaughter. So with the addition of repurposed tree stumps, woodland style planting, bespoke bench and soon to be followed by a nest swing and a tree full of lights, we really hope its somewhere for them to spend lots of special time together 💚 🌿🌳 🧚‍♀️
