Observed on a Beech tree whilst on a job today. This is one of the key features we look for before undertaking tree work. Black staining beneath a cavity can be a strong indicator of bat activity or a bat roost. Because bats are protected by law, trees with suspected roost features are properly assessed before works.

Working alongside Grimsby Tree,branch, root and garden services today, who came to the aid of a homeowner who had fallen victim to a "Have a Go" Tree Surgeons. Despite a fancy flyer through the letterbox, their skills didn`t quite match the sales pitch. After taking a cash deposit, the homeowner came back to a branch that had crashed through the shed roof, and the boys had saddled off and rode into the sunset.

The simple job was quickly finished for the customer today by a professional team.

A job completed yesterday for Utterby Parish Council.

A recent tree inspection identified a significant crack running down the stem of this oak, originating from the union of two codominant stems. Due to the tree’s location on the village green and its close proximity to the A16, action was required to mitigate the risk.

The recommended approach was to reduce the height of the crown, thereby decreasing the load exerted on the weakened union. This intervention not only lowers the likelihood of structural failure but also allows the tree the opportunity to develop adaptive (response) growth to strengthen the defect over time.

This represents the most appropriate course of action in balancing public safety with the retention of the tree.
